Famed and beloved studio P.A. Works is going back in time for their next original series!
In an announcement made on Friday the 11th, the studio revealed that their next original television series will be titled Appareranman and will feature two characters locked in a cross-country road race across the early 20th century United States to win a trip back to Japan. The race starts in Los Angeles, ends in New York, and is between the team of an engineer along with a samurai, and many others who may or may not have ill intentions towards our heroes. The promotional video below does a fantastic job of setting up the story for everyone, even if you can’t read kanji.
We don’t know yet who will provide the voices for the characters in Appareranman, but we did get a ton of crew announcements. Masakazu Hashimoto (Tari Tari) is directing this one at P.A. Works. He is also being credited with script supervision, but we don’t know who is handling series composition. Yurie Oohigashi will provide character designs while up-and-coming anime composer Evan Call (Violet Evergarden) will create the background score.
P.A. Works has been rather quiet in 2019. After releasing three series in 2018 (Uma Musume, Sirius the Jaeger, and Iroduku), the studio went into a slow period by releasing only two seasons of Fairy Gone this year. This is now the third upcoming release from the studio we know of (the other two are A3! which will be released in winter 2020 and the Shirobako movie which is currently slated for spring 2020) so it’s fantastic to see them springing back to life.
Here’s to hoping that we get a bunch more series and movie announcements in the coming weeks and months from a favorite studio of many fans on both sides of the Pacific Ocean!
