If you’re a big fan of Japanese entertainment, you’ve no doubt heard about the annual Kohaku Uta Gassen (Red and White Song Battle) put on by Japanese broadcast network, NHK. Taking place every year on New Year’s Eve, the contest is a veritable who’s who of the best musical talent Japan has to offer putting on breathtaking performances in order to win over the audience and sway the contest for their team.
This year the female team will be putting up some tough competition against their male opponents as they announced recently that anison performer LiSA would join the competition for the first time! While it hasn’t been decided which song she will perform, you have to imagine that it’ll likely be one of her more popular anime themes from this year. Being that the only way to perform on this show is through a special invitation, this is a huge honor for the singer who has been making a name for herself throughout this decade.
LiSA’s rise to this point in her career has been a steady climb, ever since she got her big solo break as one of the singing voices for the fictional band Girls Dead Monster in the anime Angel Beats. From there it was just a hop, skip, and a jump to performing the opening theme song of Fate/Zero in 2012 which ended up ranking at number 5 on the Oricon weekly charts.
Since then she has performed theme songs for many other popular anime series including Sword Art Online, The Irregular at Magic High School, Nisekoi, My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, and more.
This will certainly go down as a career highlight for the young singer who surely has many more exciting highlights coming her way during the next decade. I personally cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next!
