Uzaki and Sakurai take in the sights of Tottori while Ami and Sakaki enjoy watching them.
Episode 10 – “I Want to Hang Out in Tottori!”
Hmm.
Did you enjoy Uzaki-chan’s version of a Tottori promotional video? I did! Recently, Tottori prefecture has embraced the manga artists and authors who were born here, as we saw with the airport rebranded with Detective Conan artwork and a street named after Shigeru Mizuki, the creator of GeGeGe no Kitarou. However, Tottori is best known for the Sand Dunes National Park and the site of Japan’s first love story. The White Rabbit of Inaba played matchmaker for King Ookuni and Princess Hachigami, which hilariously connects to Ami and Sakaki trying to get Uzaki and Sakurai together.
I also appreciated how Uzaki-chan made a plot point out of our baka couple not realizing that Tottori is traditionally a trip couples make together. The slow realization, helped by a guest starring baka couple making heart poses, was delicious to behold. Ami had a hearty meal during the entire trip. There’s still a bit more work to do for the meddling duo of Ami and Sakaki to make the bakkapuru official, but at least they’ve made the odd couple notice how even their usual bickering in public looks like all the other romantic couples. That’s progress.
Heh.
Sakurai wants to see the famous sand dunes of Tottori first, but that unidentified couple from the last Uzaki-chan episode needs to make its dramatic unmasking. Thrilling car chase through a parking lot… And it’s Ami and Sakaki come to meddle. Of course. Time to settle in for bakkapuru action in a tourist destination. So, when do Ami and Sakaki start having lovey-dovey moments? These two know something about Tottori that Uzaki and Sakurai don’t know, something so enticing they just had to come and watch these two on a trip together.
First up, the Tottori Sand Dunes National Park. Ooh, a busty tour guide with glasses. Uzaki-chan gives us a great episode for oppai-megane fans. Uzaki and Sakurai show off their competitive natures. Race to the ocean down the dune! Didn’t Sakurai say there was “sandboarding?” Ha! Uzaki paid attention. Hoho! Uzaki forgot she still needs to run to the ocean at the bottom of the dune. This is like the tortoise and hare, except it’s not “slow and steady” wins the race. It’s fast and steady for the win! Um, this is a big hint about the “true nature” of Tottori. This other bakkapuru took a couple’s heart picture saying “Tottori!” Kuso Cat hates that lovey-dovey stuff.
I like the bouncy energy of the tour guide. This round school building now houses local specialties as a museum. Specialties like manga and anime character figurines! Good Smile Company has a factory in the prefecture, so that counts. Tottori is also known as the Manga Prefecture. Uzaki-chan wants Sakurai to buy all the figures. Haha! That other bakkapuru does their heart pose at the museum too.
Uzaki-chan has nerve. She brought the rabbit pastry clerk with her to make Sakurai pay! And then she takes a bite out of his bunny pastry too. Indirect kiss, here we go. Kuso Cat knows the truth of Tottori and now we do too. Look at that post box! Ami and Sakaki think that a revelation is about to strike Sakurai and Uzaki. A couple makes prayers at a certain shrine in Tottori. Uh oh! Uzaki’s fortune is awfully specific about her prospective love partner. Hint – It’s Sakurai. “Direction: Right in front of you.” Hahaha! Hakuto Shrine is “the holy ground for lovers.” No wonder Ami and Sakaki were so interested in watching Sakurai and Uzaki-chan get awkward around each other. Exquisite. White Rabbit and Kuso Cat fight it out! The shrine is supposedly the site of Japan’s first love story. Ami exclaims that Tottori tourists are generally couples in love. She exaggerates, but I admire her spirit.
Holy crap. The bakkapuru lovey-dovey versions of Uzaki-chan and Sakurai at the dunes, the souvenir shop, and sharing pastries are so annoying. But they look like that all the time… Ami enjoys a multiple course meal of bakkapuru antics.
Oh nice. Tsuki Uzaki will demonstrate the healing waters of the hot springs in Tottori. Now, what would Uzaki-chan and Sakurai have done if Ami and Sakaki didn’t show up to help split the rooms into boys and girls only? Ha! The boys only room turns into boys’ love wall slamming! Nice. Uzaki walked in on Sakaki and Sakurai’s intimate conversation. Karma repays Uzaki by making her give Sakurai accidental paizuri. The oppai-megane tour guide doesn’t like the sound of whatever they’re doing in that mist room.
Yes! Uzaki-chan gives us the onsen scene we’ve been waiting for! Sakurai and Uzaki can’t stop arguing even while separated by a hot spring wall. They claim they’re setting up a series of contests, but it’s a date.
They’re on a big date playing games. Oh, good for Uzaki-chan and Sakurai. Touring Mizuki Shigeru road will get them out of the Tottori loving couple mindset. Lots of fun statues of youkai from his GeGeGe no Kitarou series. The oppai-megane tour guide sticks with them to the bitter end. Uzaki and Sakurai have too much fun with these youkai statues.
Aw. Uzaki-chan features Uzaki in a Tottori commercial for the end credits.
Next time, Sakurai wants to do something too.
Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! streams on Funimation in Japanese with English subtitles and dubbed in English beginning on September 11th.
