Doctor Glenn and his lamia assistant Sapphee attend to the medical needs of monster girls at his clinic in a fantasy genre setting.
Case 1 – “The Centaur of the Arena”
First Thoughts.
There’s no getting around it. Monster Girl Doctor (Monster Musume no Oisha-san) will draw comparisons to Everyday Life with Monster Girls (Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou). The main girl is a snake girl. Both shows have centaurs, harpies, mermaids, spider ladies, cyclopes, Frankenstein monsters, and slime girls too. And I only know this from looking at the title posters.
However, besides the same kind of chimera ladies forming a harem around a nice-guy human, the similarities of the premises break down quickly. Monster Girl Doctor is set in a fantasy style medieval city. Everyday Life with Monster Girls is an isekai with monster girls traveling to modern day Japan. Monster Girl Doctor is a medical procedural with ecchi fanservice. Everyday Life with Monster Girls is an ecchi harem comedy farce.
What I found interesting about both shows was how they explained the aspects of the monster girls in their respective worlds, since they were mainly mythological chimeras come to life as pinup models. These aspects are going to be more important in Monster Girl Doctor because Doctor Glenn is going to draw on knowledge of medieval medicine, classical mythology, veterinary science, and animal husbandry. The poor guy in Everyday Life with Monster Girls worried about his house gradually growing larger to accommodate all the large voluptuous bodies of monster girls and dealt with reverse isekai issues like prejudice and culture shock. Monster Girl Doctor reminds me of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, where the hook was frontier medicine and an emergency of the week. Doctor Glenn is going to face a monster girl of the week, making Sapphee the snake girl jealous every week too.
I think it’s fun to think that the world of Monster Girl Doctor is where the interdimensional gate in Everyday Life with Monster Girls leads. For sure, lamia girls in both shows are possessive and jealous.
Hmm.
The character designs for the monster girls in Monster Girl Doctor made it clear these beautiful girls were going to find themselves in sexy situations. But how? Doctor Glenn doesn’t appear to be the type who courts ladies on his own initiative. He is a doctor, and I’ve seen enough of fanservice anime to know what that means. Yes, we will have accidental ecchi from monster girls moaning during medical exams. Add in a pouty, jealous wannabe-girlfriend watching the proceedings and counting the days until her own next exam, and we have all the ingredients necessary for comedy harem ecchi high jinks.
After watching the first episode, it looks like Monster Girl Doctor will be more than a sexy-monster-of-the-week slice-of-life anime. Its postwar setting adds a layer of dramatic depth as humans and monsters adjust to living together. I wonder if the various monsters will need to adjust to living with each other too. The prologue shows monsters fighting humans, but I didn’t see a lot of mixed monster units. Monster Girl Doctor might prove to be a vehicle for appreciating differences between cultures but using the different monsters’ circumstances as stand-ins for the different cultures people experience in real life. There could be moral issues to explore regarding the different factions which might not have wanted the fighting to end in mutual peace. I expect Monster Girl Doctor to be more than a harmless young man feeling up sexy monster girl parts.
Heh.
Groping cow boobs right from the start. Wear earphones, guys. The cowgirl and cowboy designs are hilarious. Monster Girl Doctor made them look like American cowboy cosplay. Also, the monster boys look more like the animals and chimeras they’re supposed to be, while the monster girls have pretty faces and sexy female parts like in Murenase! Seton Gakuen. Oh. The cowgirl and cowboy are minotaurs and they’re about to have their first calf.
The town of Lindworm looks like a Renaissance-era setting. CGI fairies are distracting. Hoh. Saphentite the Lamia is the jealous type. She didn’t like Glenn making a newlywed girl moan out loud. Ah. These two are childhood friends who went to medical school together. Since she likes “Saphee” so much, I’ll call her that too. Centaurs deliver the mail. When do we meet Dr. Cthulhy? Octopus lady named after Cthulhu…
Monster girl of the week is a centaur. Harpy girls just hanging out. Are there harpy boys? Dr. Cthulhy is busy at the hospital, so she asked Dr. Glenn to handle the physical checkups for the arena fighters. Well, this centaur girl certainly acts like a princess. Tisalia will be the featured fanservice and target of Saphee’s jealous pouts, I’m sure.
A cat lady draws Saphee’s first pout of the physicals. Here we go. Tisalia shows us all her monster girl goodies. And she’s flirting with Glenn right in front of Saphee! Nice. Saphee knows mean girl techniques. Tisalia’s attendants look worried about something. They’re disappointed that she’s healthy?
This is good! Late night drinking with a snake lady! Ice is expensive in this fantasy setting. They haven’t discovered the principles of thermodynamics and heat engines yet. I want some of that Firedragon Whiskey! Ah. Glenn figured something out with Tisalia and why she’s in a slump with her latest duels. Don’t argue with a drunk snake lady when she has her coils around you.
Tisalia is in a bad way if a centaur can’t beat a cat lady. We need some monster girl bondage play for Glenn to treat Tisalia properly. Glenn acts like a veterinarian to put horseshoes on Tisalia! Wouldn’t this issue of hooves wearing down come up earlier? Why is she scared of Glenn trimming her hooves and shoeing her? Is this like getting ears pierced for centaurs? Nice. Cyclopes are blacksmiths in this world. Here we go. Inadvertent sexy moaning. Wear headphones, people. Snake tail in the mouth is not suggestive of anything. I swear!
All’s well that ends well for our first monster girl of the week. Glenn’s harem grows by one centaur.
Next time, a mermaid sings her heart out.
