Episode 2 — “Weak and Wimpy After School”
Hmm.
Have you ever wondered how a character claiming to seek a “peaceful high school life” can have his life upended in an instant? One fateful encounter sets off a chain reaction of comedy, pulling in minor characters and expanding a cipher’s circle of friends. How could this be? Yowayowa Sensei’s leading man reveals the one requisite for starting a story — a life in precarious balance. Here are my thoughts on how the “keeping things simple” guy did everything except that.

Working Hard for the Peaceful Life in Yowayowa Sensei
Akihito Akibura displayed all the markers of the main character in the first episode of Yowayowa Sensei. He had the corner seat at the back of the classroom next to the window. He bragged to himself about flying under the radar during his first year of high school. The second episode adds more evidence. His childhood friend is the genki gyaru who has been in the same homeroom with him since elementary school. Mizuki Mukubayashi has paid close attention to Abikura-kun’s behavior all this time, so she must harbor some resentment and jealousy that he chose the “weak and wimpy teacher” to spend time with instead of the “strong and sturdy gal.” Chalk it up to the lad’s must-protecc instinct that his childhood friend never triggered.
We can add Mizuki to the list of skin fang girls, and her design reminds me of Makina from that recent ecchi android anime. Mizuki’s gorilla strength will be handy for more lucky-sukebe scenes in future Yowayowa Sensei episodes, especially after Hiyori-sensei ignited her must-protecc impulses, too. She never gave Abikura-kun a cute nickname, either.
So, Abikura already had a love interest in his orbit that he willfully ignored. We have yet to see the complex coping strategies he took to avoid deeper entanglements with Mizuki. But they might have matched the effort he put into stopping his older sister from spoiling him.
Ama-Ama Onee-san and Maternal Must-Protecc Instincts
That’s right. The simple-life proponent of Yowayowa Sensei also had a doting big sister, Akemi Abikura. Instead of accepting all the ways she tried to do simple tasks for him, like dressing or eating, which would have been easier, Abikura taught himself household chores and cooking to avoid her. But that only fueled her maternal instincts. The must-protecc instinct runs in the family. The Abikura house breeds stress and squabbles over how much Akemi should meddle in his little brother’s life. That’s the opposite of simple or peaceful! The harder Abikura worked to keep his life balanced between stressful situations and quiet, the more precarious it became.
One puff of dojikko-moe chaos toppled his fragile house of cards. What can we learn from this? Don’t sit in the rear seat by the window!
Yowayowa Sensei Makes Me Say Heh.
How often does this happen? A new teacher joined her homeroom’s gym class. Hiyori-sensei’s students hoped to escape her “curses” during PE, but no such luck. No surprises here — Abikura, the class president, partners up with Hiyori-sensei for a series of strength tests. I prefer a girl with gentle grip strength, if you know what I mean, and I think that you do. Yowa-Yowa Sensei has the fitness level of a seven-year-old girl!
Tsuyo-Tsuyo Gal sighting! Mizuki Mukubayashi is a genki gyaru with a heart of gold and gorilla strength. She’s also Abikura’s childhood friend. Yowayowa Sensei hits all the character archetypes. Har. Hidive translates “tsuyo-tsuyo” as “strong and sturdy.” No complaints from me! Uh oh. Is she jealous of Hiyori-sensei spending time with Abikura? Ack! Mizuki knocked over Hiyori-sensei during the long jump.
Abikura’s homeroom teacher wound up in the nurse’s office, who then told her to take off her bra so she could rest more easily in bed. Surely no ecchi fan service can come from this development. Surely! Boin, squish, snoring! Lend her a hand, Abikura-kun! All the PE activity had worn Hiyori-sensei out, so it was naptime.
Tsuyo-Tsuyo Gyaru Must Protecc!
Mizuki’s friends worry that their homeroom teacher cursed her. The genki gyaru vows to protect the class! What misunderstanding will strike next in Yowayowa Sensei? Voodoo surgery on a stuffed animal! What cursed ritual did Mizuki stumble upon? Hiyori-sensei obviously cut her finger trying to mend a plushie. Mizuki’s panicky imagination gives Hiyori-sensei too much credit. And the genki gyaru believes her teacher brainwashed Abikura! He’s Sensei’s first victim, according to everyone! Even more proof — Mizuki is Abikura’s childhood friend, and he’s never volunteered for anything, much less the class president! The Tsuyo-Tsuyo Gyaru will protect the school! Har. Hiyori-sensei admires Mizuki’s spirit. And the dojikko lucky sukebe strikes! Abikura is the meat filling inside a big booby sandwich. What a delicious reward!
Yes, Mizuki, it was all a misunderstanding, as expected for Yowayowa Sensei. The spooky, scary teacher became anemic from the tiny cut on her finger. What the heck, must protecc! But what about the lewd pose? Oops. Abikura is now the villain in Mizuki’s misinterpretation of events. Hiyori-sensei’s dojikko-lucky sukebe combo does nothing to dissuade Mizuki from believing that Abikura takes advantage of Yowa-Yowa Sensei.

The Must-Protecc Houkago Club of Yowayowa Sensei
Why is Hiyori-sensei straddling Abikura? The sexy saxophone music is your bow-chicka-wow-wow sound effect. It was an accident, of course, but will Mizuki accept that answer? At least she’s apologizing to her homeroom teacher about all the mean things she said. Tsuyo-Tsuyo Genki Gyaru calls Hiyori-sensei “Hiyorin.” That touches Hiyorin-sensei’s heart because she always wanted to be the best-friend-teacher type. Abikura can step down as class president now, right? No! Don’t take dojikko-lucky sukebe time away from him!
Mizuki claims she can advise Hiyorin-sensei on public speaking, but her gorilla genki girl brain lacks the vocabulary. Can she follow Mizuki’s lesson on voice projection? Doubtful. Hiyorin-sensei’s voice is too thin and reedy, but Mizuki suspects her suit jacket is to blame. Hiyori-sensei thought the same in the first Yowayowa Sensei episode, so we can guess what happens next.
Whoops! Gorilla strength combines with lucky sukebe! Thankfully, Hiyorin-sensei wore panties today. The dojikko teacher is also familiar with her clothes ripping off because she often snags fabric on nails and doors. Oh no! Don’t tear off your skirt in sympathetic shame! Ack! Even Abikura shows off his boxer briefs! Imagine the uproar if someone walked in right now! Oh. He’s lending Hiyorin-sensei his pants. That explains why she’s wearing gray pants in the opening credits. Aw. Hiyorin-sensei enjoys the lively company.
Maternal Instincts Cause Baby Play for Yowayowa Sensei
Mizuki joined the Hiyorin After School Club, so Abikura’s alone time with the moe busty dojikko ended. Aha! Abikura-kun’s given name is Akihito, so says his much older sister, 29-year-old Akemi. She’s a total brocon. Akihito’s so mean for not letting her spoil him!
