Vermeil realizes her feelings for Alto have deepened. She also tries fitting into a school uniform and meeting the student council.
Episode 7 – “Confession”
Hmm.
Vermeil in Gold presented a message against prejudice and advocated for equal treatment. Demons deserve human rights! Can we broaden that to “people rights?” Student Council President Elena quoted the school’s motto about familiars being equal, so she accepted Vermeil as a demon. Elena has a hidden agenda, so that’s good storytelling at that moment. The student council also started redeeming themselves as competent players. I had thought Ryuuga and the others did not deserve the high opinions they had of themselves if they couldn’t deal with students in comas. Then we discovered that Professor Obsidian was the culprit and had blocked their investigations using faculty privilege. The student council doesn’t trust the faculty anymore, so now we have an insider-outsider dynamic. And the president asked Alto to join them! I like this plot development.
Alto’s harem is also developing nicely in Vermeil in Gold. Lilia became less annoying with her acceptance of Vermeil. The buxom demoness Vermeil is a good person! She can’t be an evil demon if Vermeil had saved Alto’s life. Sylpheed, Lilia’s familiar, echoes her master’s emotions, so I liked the touching moment when the wind fairy snuggled Vermeil’s cheek. Still, Lilia has obstacles to overcome if she wants to become Alto’s number one. For hints, just look at the behavior of Alto’s male classmates. They mourned when Vermeil was absent and celebrated when she came back. But some students still mourned because she wasn’t wearing her virgin killer dress anymore. A divided fandom is still a fandom!
Heh.
Uh oh. Vermeil wants to cuddle Alto in the middle of the night. And more! She’s used to someone wanting her, but her feelings for Alto are brand new.
How much time has passed in Vermeil in Gold since the Obsidian incident? One day? The girls in class are crying about him. And the boys… ah! They’re sobbing because Vermeil hadn’t come to class with Alto. Alto’s their bro! Why hasn’t Alto bought Vermeil a new outfit yet? Buying her sweets is a promising idea. Vermeil needs time alone to process her new feelings. Lilia just gets it out there: Vermeil is a demon. So what? Lilia only cares if Vermeil did “something weird” to Alto. Kissing isn’t weird, though. Oh, but Alto kissing Vermeil first is. It feels like the first time Vermeil has been in love. Aw. Sylpheed comforts Vermeil too.
Vermeil admits to herself that living with Alto feels like coming home. That’s a big step. Vermeil references an incident in her past that resembles what happened to Alto, so she felt withdrawn. I’m sure that history will be used as an emotional weapon by enemies in the future. Alto cares more that Vermeil is feeling better instead of moping. He offered her pastries to cheer her up, but Vermeil wanted “sugar.” There’s a lot of kissing in Vermeil in Gold. Go figure since that’s how they transfer mana back and forth to each other. But still, there’s the extracurricular kissing. Clarification from Vermeil. She wants Alto to kiss her. I appreciate this new assertive Alto. But when does he get his growth spurt? For his height, all you degenerates!
Alright, back to class for Vermeil. Whoops! That uniform doesn’t fit! But it works for Vermeil in Gold! It looks like a butt hanging out of her vest… Vermeil’s top button does the heavy lifting. Ah. This is Vermeil’s second try at going to class. She only had Alto’s extra coat the first time back! We will have to wait until the next episode to see what Vermeil wears next. Oh good. We have confirmation that Alto’s death didn’t erase his contract with Vermeil.
Okay. Time to find out who the new villains are in Vermeil in Gold. The official website released a visual showing dark times ahead for Alto and Vermeil. Uh, that’s an Escher drawing of a magical building. This annoying guy scoffs at Obsidian’s defeat as he pins the paper shikigami to his phone. There’s a third conspirator. They’re up on the character page at the official website if you want spoilers. They are all Platinum Squares, the highest magician class that Alto aspires to. The anime season is well into its second act. Iolite and the busty witch Heliodor took over a cathedral to squat.
That’s nice, but we need to see big-time plot development for Vermeil in Gold. Vermeil busted up the classroom worse than Iolite demolished that cathedral. Alto’s happy male classmates faced weeping, wailing devastation. Of pure joy! Me too, gentlemen, me too. Aw. Some guys are sad to see the virgin killer dress go away. The new minor school drama will be the Bronze Level exams.
Ooh, that’s hot. Alto and Vermeil sneaking kisses behind the staircase will fire up all the Vermeil in Gold fan art. Vermeil claims she needs as much mana as Alto can provide. Kiss, kiss, kiss! A satisfied, sparkly Vermeil makes for a happy Alto. We knew this was coming. Alto versus the student council!
Alto worries about Vermeil’s demon status. All we know about demons came from Obsidian, so I don’t trust any of it. First, President Elena apologized for allowing Obsidian to hurt Alto on the student council’s watch. Seems reasonable so far. We know that Elena fought the familiar of a Platinum Square, but the student council doesn’t yet know that. And they can’t ask Obsidian because he escaped the city jail! Why are the adults in charge in Vermeil in Gold?
Then the student council goes directly to hardball interrogation. All that posturing and nobody cares about Vermeil being a demon. They just wanted to know how Alto beat Obsidian. Well, he didn’t know either. The power of love brought Vermeil back to her senses, and she punched Obsidian twice. See the last Vermeil in Gold episode for reference. No big deal. Don’t mind the sharp weapons pointed at your heads. Elena cites the motto of the school “All Familiars are Equal.” She wants to keep their investigation independent of the faculty. Having a thicc demoness on their side would be the best! Jessica is a rules stickler, but she’ll follow her lead. There you go! New good guys, bad guys, and more kissing!
