Episode 11 – “I Kind of Want to Do Things Right Already!”

Sakurai had a character development scene in Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! which we needed to pay attention to. He was sparring with his father in the family judo dojo. Sakurai appeared to be at a stalemate with his dad, but Sakurai immediately lost in one move. Mr. Sakurai walked straight at his son, and Shinichi hesitated. That one moment is the metaphor for his relationship dynamic with Uzaki-chan. The two close the distance between them, but he needs to act quickly. If he doesn’t grab Uzaki-chan and throw her down, he won’t win the prize of love! Throw that short stack down and… and win!
Baby Nodoka delays Sakurai and Uzaki-chan from becoming an official couple. How? Babysitting duties. I foresee Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! using the smallest member of the Sakurai family to tease scenes of Sakurai and Uzaki-chan acting like a married couple with children. Way to draw out the baka couple from getting together!

Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! starts the episode with Uzaki-chan’s memories from high school. Sakurai taught the swim club manager how to swim after practice. Long-hair Uzaki-chan! Har. Sakurai is a terrible teacher. He has no vocabulary for translating his body motions into words. Hoh. Uzaki-chan also didn’t hold back in the past. Sakurai is a natural athlete who can’t explain how he does things. But he felt protective of Uzaki-chan because he didn’t want to see the swim club manager drown. This was when Uzaki-chan made it past Sakurai’s scary eyes to realize he was a nice guy.
Sakurai also wasn’t a ball sports guy. We saw that previously in Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!. Anything that needed extra gear would be a problem for him. So, endurance sports and weight lifting are fine, but hitting, kicking, or throwing balls are no good. Confirmed. Uzaki-chan spends much time examining Sakurai’s body. Ha! Sakaki wants to take advantage of Uzaki-chan’s sloshed state. Her mouth keeps running on alcohol fumes! Ami needs to wipe the drool from her mouth. Uzaki-chan provides too good a meal of Sakurai stories.
Aw. Nodoka likes looking at her older brother’s mean eyes. Papa needs to take pictures. Yeah! Shinichi needs Papa time too. In the judo dojo! How rusty did Shinichi get? Papa Sakurai counters his son’s moves. Haha! His dad walked right up to Sakurai and made him panic! That’s a familiar dynamic in Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!. Total loss. Shinichi has a bad habit of putting out a hand when he gets flustered. Who has been flustering him lately? I wonder who! The family dojo has new uniforms, but Shinichi didn’t get one. Papa Sakurai can be a jerk! Look how he turned judo into relationship talk! He made Sakurai defend Uzaki-chan. Don’t get flustered, Senpai! Father-son advice happens when getting sweaty from a judo tackle. Whoops! Mama Sakurai throws the hardest. It’s dinner time! She’s still the strongest judoka in the Sakurai household.
Drinking time is over for Uzaki-chan and Ami too. This is your reminder from Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! that taxis in Japan are expensive! Sakaki is too much of a bro. When will he get together with Ami? Oho. Yanagi has joined Sakaki and Ami in the rice club. Dayum. Papa Sakurai is ripped! Shinichi is such a stick in the mud. Let your papa have skinship in the bathroom after two years. Nope! Uzai Beer stands in for Asahi. Instead of “Super Dry” (スーパードライ), it’s “Super Annoying” (スーパーウザイ, suupaa uzai).
Old-man girl talk isn’t over for Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! yet. Sakurai’s gym bros came to Asia Café! The bearded dude knows Master Asai, so he brought Fujio to have coffee. Mr. Baldy-Beardy wears a biker’s leather jacket. Baldy-Beardy is Master Asai’s classmate! I always thought of Master Asai as older than the college kids’ parents, but he may not be since Ami is about the same age as her friends. Har. Fujio tried to sell a gym membership to Sakaki. Ha! Sakurai was there! He’s preoccupied with Uzaki-chan and cleaning the same spot repeatedly. Bye-bye, Nodoka. Bye-bye, Kuso Pops!
Sakurai is mulling over Papa Sakurai’s advice about treating Uzaki-chan right. So people don’t gossip about her acting like a girlfriend when she’s not. Too late, Pops! At least Sakurai’s friends are trying to get them together in Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!. And Uzaki-chan’s friend already told her how compatible as lovers they are. Yet Sakurai hesitates. That Fujio is Uzaki-chan’s father and his getting advice from him is even more delicious. Sakaki and Master Asai feel left out. Sakurai gets old-man advice from all quarters. Decide what you want, then get it!
So, what did Sakurai determine? That Uzaki-chan is too annoying! Who’d want to spend time with a short stack who rips on him all the time? Everything that Uzaki-chan offers out of pity for her pathetic Senpai is what she wants to do. But Sakurai hasn’t figured that out yet. Back to square one. My Kouhai is Too Annoying!
Next time, someone else wants to hang out on Christmas Eve. Who?
