Our fellow cultured otakus celebrate Maid Day each year on May 10th. In Japanese, the number ten (10) can be pronounced as “do.” As described by SoraNews24, when combined with May, it sounds like “May-do” or “Maid.” As such, we have a day dedicated to the anime maids we love so much.
1. Grayfia Lucifuge (High School DxD)
Not all anime maids are the same, and this is especially true of Grayfia. She’s technically a Queen of the Underworld and one of the most powerful demons. Grayfia is also of noble lineage. Even so, she chooses to act as a maid for her family.
2. Siesta (The Familiar of Zero / Zero no Tsukaima)
Siesta was originally a maid at the Tristain Academy of Magic. That was until a nobleman with a reputation for being unkind to his female servants purchased her. Saito and Louise fought to get her back. Siesta was then assigned to Saito as his servant, which was an exciting prospect for her.
3. Lilith (The Maid I Hired Recently is Mysterious / Saikin Yatotta Meido ga Ayashii)
Lilith has received her due respect, and perhaps worship, on J-List at least twice before. She is joeschmo1of3’s waifu of choice and makes a very appealing bunny girl. Lilith is the titular maid of the series. She is dutiful in her tasks, even as she teases her master, Yuri.
4. Rem (Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- / Re:ZERO kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu)
I think it’s illegal to have a list of maids and not to include Rem. She is a highly skilled servant and a cherished friend. Rem is unwaveringly loyal to Subaru, even confessing her romantic interest in him, making her the best girl of the series.
If you want to succeed where Subaru failed and choose the best girl, the J-List shop has a recommendation. The Rem 1/7 Figure Tea Party Ver. from the Re:Zero section is available now.
5. Misaki Ayuzawa (The Class President Is a Maid! / Kaicho wa Meido-sama!)
Misaki’s father left home, leaving her family with an unbearable debt. As such, she toughened herself physically and mentally. She applied to work part-time at a maid café to support her mother and younger sister. Takumi Usui, a popular boy at Seika High School, discovered Misaki there and struck up a friendship with her.
6. Tohru (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid / Kobayashi-san Chi no Meidoragon)
A human warrior sealed Tohru, a tremendously fearsome dragon, years ago. Kobayashi, a drunken office lady, removes the sealing sword with a little effort, so Tohru falls in love with her and decides to live with Kobayashi as her maid.
7. Alice Lendrott (The Duke of Death and His Maid / Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Meido)
Alice serves as the duke’s important maid. Despite his lethal curse, Alice cares for him as more than a maid and is not above teasing him with coy words or revealing some skin. It becomes evident in the series that the duke reciprocates her feelings.
8. Tsubame Kamoi (Our Maid is Way Too Annoying! / Uchi no Maid ga Uzasugiru!)
Tsubame is a JASDF (Japan Air Self-Defense Force) member who became a maid. Her endearment toward young girls leads her to become Misha’s overprotective maid. Tsubame became a supreme maid with a deceptively built physique and her skills as a soldier.
9. Tomomi Saikyou (Ladies versus Butlers!)
Tomomi is an upper-ed student at Hakureiryo Academy. Her manipulative and perverted nature is concealed by a kind and gentle demeanor. She appears to have a genuine concern for Akiharu and is willing to help him when things become too complicated.
10. Belfast (Azur Lane)
Belfast is a highly skilled and knowledgeable ship girl. She acts as Enterprise’s maid to bring out her inner humanity and to teach her how to behave like a gentlewoman.
11. Charlotte Dunois (Infinite Stratos)
I’ll be honest. I don’t think Charlotte is actually a maid. The closest I found is that she fantasizes about being Ichika’s maid and his future wife. However, you fine J-List readers have declared her to be a maid. Who can pass up a French girl in a maid outfit, anyway?
12. Airi (Queen’s Blade)
Airi is a wraith summoned by The Swamp Witch to carry out missions that would end the Queen’s Blade Tournament. As she is dressed as a maid, she sweeps her mistress’s enemies away.
13. Izumi Sawatari (He Is My Master / Kore ga Watashi no Goshujin-sama)
Izumi is known for her super strength and is the only sane person in the cast. She is also known for her bountiful bust, as seen when Yoshitaka and Anna try to romance her.
14. Sawawa Hiyorimi (Princess Resurrection / Kaibutsu Oujo)
Sawawa is a kind and dutiful maid whose cooking skills even a princess will describe as the best. She remains unaware of the magical aspect of the world thanks to her oblivious personality.
