Ayame and Shinya want to measure the production of the so-called love hormone, which requires lots of touching.
Proof 8 – “Science-types Fell in Love, So They Tried to Collect Evidence of Love”
Hmm.
I’m glad Rikei ga Koi tackled the most searing question of the series so far: what the heck is Kosuke doing with all these people? He’s a pretty boy soccer player who plays lots of galge, but he must be good at math and comprehending science to join a computer science lab in his 4th year at university. Thankfully, Kosuke is aware that he’s not dumb, but that his colleagues are stellar in comparison. That’s causing him to form an inferiority complex and to think about joining a different lab.
I enjoyed the subtle emotional reaction Ena had. Rikei ga Koi made it look like she wanted to him to leave too, but I detected an irritation based on his giving up too soon, not recognizing his own talent, or perhaps he could be performing better without being intimidated by the likes of Ena, Shinya, and Ayame. Professor Ikeda played the good boss because I’m sure he’s seen these kinds of workplace issues before. His suggestion of exploring what he likes best, dating sims, was an obvious one and a good one. Plus, Ikeda noted that Ena’s research topic on chaos theory was related to his interest in soccer. The wise scientist also defused a possible emotional situation with Ena, since Kosuke is her childhood friend and his leaving the lab might cause her problems.
I have a mix of positive and negative feelings about Rikei ga Koi introducing another character so late in the season. The mangaka of the source material is Alfred Yamamoto. His female version suddenly showed up in the anime to push Ayame and Shinya into sexier situations during their trip to Okinawa. Sexier situations are good. A meta-level inside joke makes me ambivalent. It feels like the author ran out of ideas grounded purely in the science academy world and fell back on his familiarity with the commercial art industry. Rikei ga Koi‘s Arika Yamamoto pushes my attention out of the story just when I want to be fully engaged with Ayame dealing with hot days and hotter nights on a beach trip with Shinya. Yamamoto can make it up to me by creating lots of fanservice art of the Ikeda Lab girls in summer situations.
Heh.
Ikeda needs an alarm clock he can’t smash. Rikei ga Koi makes a good joke setup. Kosuke is playing a video game and it looks like he’s about to be scolded, but no! Everyone plays and gets trounced by Ena. Nice Nintendo Game Cube… Oh, here comes the real scolding. Kosuke still hasn’t decided on his research topic for the training camp.
Kosuke holds up a game called RikaKoi Another. That seems way too close to Rikei ga Koi’s title to be a coincidence. Ikeda is solid. Why not study what you’re interested in, like dating sims? Find the algorithm that always produces the True End and gets all the CG’s! Oh. Ena studies chaos theory. That explains how she always causes an uproar in the lab. Aw. Ena is happy Kosuke likes being in the lab. This music and Ena’s reaction were just like tripping a flag in Kosuke’s beloved RikaKoi game.
Science Bear hangs out with a lot of vials in the eye catch.
Random “give me your spit” line from Shinya. Kotonoha should be used to this stuff by now, but she’s not. She’s really not!
It’s summertime if Ayame is wearing a sleeveless top. Haha. Shinya got flipped for making an unseemly request from a pure maiden. Ayame just asked the same question more politely. Ah. They want to collect saliva to measure oxytocin, the “love hormone.” Anime always encourages “skinship” so here we go with the Rikei ga Koi version. Oxytocin is only released when a loved one touches a person, so this should be an easy experiment to control. Except, there might be some surprises from the other pairings!
I never expected Science Bear to touch his nipples and yell at me to do the same thing.
Ahahaha! Shinya has a video of drunk Ayame! He can’t stop watching it! Delete! Ayame wants it deleted! Shinya won’t delete it because it’s “extremely valuable data.” For him! Putting that aside, Ayame and Shinya are going to have too much stimulation figuring out how best to touch each other to produce oxytocin. I’m going to assume nipple touching is right out. Nice. Kotonoha said, “kyaa~!” Ayame and Shinya are about to pass out from holding each other like this. They think they can feel the oxytocin rising in their bloodstreams, but they’re just insanely happy to snuggle. Kotonoha needs to provide a disclaimer. It’s fun to see how the Rikei ga Koi manga played this scene out. It had the disclaimer too!

Ooh. Mysterious alumna. And we’re back. Shinya wants as much physical contact and saliva as possible during the training camp. Yeah, that sounds awesome… Uh oh. Another normie walked in on the strange doings of the Ikeda Lab. Um, a person wearing a beret named Yamamoto… like an artist named Yamamoto? Like the mangaka for Rikei ga Koi named Alfred Yamamoto? This lady used to be in the lab, so you know she’s crazy like everyone else. Ena doesn’t seem happy to see her again.
Shinya and Ayame are proud of their research so far. Yamamoto pays very close attention. Shinya can’t stop playing that video of Ayame! Yes! He can’t delete it because it’s his proof that he might love Ayame! That’s the first time he’s admitted that in Rikei ga Koi. Har. Her name is Arika Yamamoto, a mangaka using “a certain pen name.” Like Alfred? She wants to turn Ayame and Shinya’s story into a manga series. This is too meta. It’s a good idea to write a comic where the audience sends in anecdotes. Garfield and Dilbert operate this way now after they became hugely successful.
Ena is troubled that Yamamoto will be joining them on their training camp in Okinawa. Mysterious! Well, the Yamamoto inside Rikei ga Koi knows the audience wants that beach episode. Ayame and Shinya are not ready to “do this and even that.” Wait a minute. Did Yamamoto write the story and art for that Aika-chan game Kosuke likes so much? I’m going to laugh so hard if that’s the case. Next time, it’s the beach episode in Okinawa. My body is ready!
