During the Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival, Popuko and Pipimi from the popular comedy series Pop Team Epic took part. In fact, they took the spotlight, they took part in a rather devastating fire.
Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival is held in commemoration of Lord Maeda Toshiie’s entry into Kanazawa castle and allows visitors to float their custom-made paper lanterns down the riverside. Below you can witness Popuko and Pipimi floating down the river before hell was raised.

While it was a beautiful sight to see the festival in action, Popuko and Pipimi floating down the river while one lantern decided to spontaneously combust. According to a report from Nippon TV, around 1,200 lanterns were flowing down the river before they decided to explode. After the flames were extinguished, at least 600 of the lanterns had been burned to ashes.
