Piracy is inevitable in the entertainment industry. The most critical ones are those leaks that are released days before the movie’s official premiere date. It seems that Legendary Pictures’ highly anticipated Pokémon movie Detective Pikachu is no exemption to this.
Just three days before the live-action movie’s premiere date, a video was uploaded on a YouTube channel “Inspector Pikachu” with the title Pokémon Detective Pikachu: Full Picture. It has a duration of 1 hour, 14 minutes, and 53 seconds. Reading the video title alone is quite tempting to check out.
It is still up as of this writing and has gathered more than 9 million views since it was uploaded. When you think it’s the full movie, you will realize that we’ve been fooled all along.
The film starts with the Warner Bros., The Pokemon Company, and Legendary Pictures logos like any ordinary film you see on the big screen. It then shows you a glimpse of the fictional Ryme City and the protagonist Tim Goodman (played by Justice Smith).
When the video then hits the 1:09 mark, the scene changes to Detective Pikachu dancing to 80s music. This continues on until the end of the video. Yes, it is considered as clickbait but it’s probably one of the most effective ways to lure in people to watch it.
