Sometimes you’ve got to… ahem… take matters into your own hands.
It’s no secret that J-List supports playing with yourself by offering some of the best adult toys from Japan. What’s less obvious is why the world should embrace masturbation as a global (discreet) pastime. Let’s lay down the benefits really quickly: self-pleasuring is safe, healthy, and natural. And speaking of playing with yourself, this week we’ve got news about a free solo boardgame from our sister company, JAST USA. No, it’s not an April Fools joke… well… sort of not.
It’s The Pickle and Daweeb Show, where we pour a hot, steaming cup of anime nostalgia and then spill it down the trouser leg of geek culture. Also this week, free boardgames and TTRPGs, and One Piece gets its own card game.
One Piece is Getting a Card Game
Fans of the mega-hit manga and anime franchise One Piece can look forward to a new One Piece card game, coming to stores later this year, after a Japanese release in July.
You can find out more about the game on the official One Piece Card Game website, which has a sneak peek at the four starter sets that will be available for the game. Booster packs of 12 cards, card sleeves, and a starter deck featuring all the characters from One Piece Film have been teased, but it’s a little early to know just what to expect yet.
Looking at the cards and considering other Japanese TCGs, I expect stats in units of a thousand, complex play zones, and deck building to revolve around character choices. Luckily, there will also be a tutorial app to help players learn the game, presumably without all that pesky reading of rules pamphlets. One thing we can be certain of though is that the art is going to include some top-tier pieces.

Quintessential Quintuplets 2 Coming to Weiss Schwarz
The Quintessential Quintuplets 2 will feature in a new Weiss Schwarz booster set from Bushiroad, coming August 5th, 2022. The new cards will feature Ichika, Nino, Mika, Yotsuba, and Itsuki. The biggest draw for fans, though, might be the chance to pull one of five signed foil cards featuring Kana Hanazawa (as Ichika Nakano), Ayana Taketatsu (as Nino Nakano), Miku Itou (as Miku Nakano), Ayane Sakura (as Yotsuba Nakano), or Inori Minase (as Itsuki Nakano).
Solo Leveling Volume 4 Out in October
The popular Korean webcomic Solo Leveling will get its fourth print installment, in English, in October this year. That’s good news for fans, but also for blog writers trying to get the most out of their “playing with yourself” keyphrase.
The South Korean webcomic is written by Chugong and the English serialization is licensed by Yen Press.
The story features Hunters, who are humans with magical powers who protect humanity from the monsters that seek to wipe out the human race. Sung Jinwoo is one of the weakest Hunters, who finds himself struggling to survive from dungeon to dungeon until a mysterious program known as the System selects him as its solo player, granting him the rare ability to limitlessly level up.
Fool Me Again, JAST USA
JAST USA played a full house on April 1st, releasing a fake boardgame announcement for a real, upcoming game, and a fully playable “early access” solo boardgame for a fake computer game. Confused? There’s a lot going on here, let’s break it down.
The Sagara Family: Remastered – The Board Game! is a fake boardgame for the very real remaster of The Sagara Family, a hit adult visual novel, which will be available from the 13th of this month on JAST USA’s website.
Mayas & Dragons is a free, downloadable print and play solo dungeon crawl where you get to build a team chosen from the many incarnations of Maya (JAST’s mascot), drawn from across the Mayaverse, to battle the evil Dark Realm Magic (DRM for short). You can find the game on the official Mayas & Dragons website. Playing with yourself has never been this easy to clean up, for sure.
Pokéthulhu is a Hidden Treasure for Pokémon Fans
Speaking of free games! What do Pokémon and HP Lovecraft have in common? I don’t know, but the answer might be mass geek appeal. If that’s true, then here’s something you might not have heard of that you should definitely check out, the Pokéthulhu Adventure Game (3rd Edition). If you love tabletop roleplaying games and have had enough of D&D, then Pokéthulhu — with its rules-light d12-based mechanics — could be a breath of fresh air.
What I love most about the game is that it straddles the line between Lovecraftian horror, parody, and Pokémon in a playable, bite-sized 33 pages that can easily be enjoyed over an evening’s session with friends. Besides that, it’s free.
