Valentine’s Day is approaching, are you ready? There are still some cute anime girls in desperate need of a date for Singles Appreciation Day… ahem… Valentines. It may seem impossible, but these girls aren’t getting picked up anytime soon. Let’s take a look at ladies who deserve special love and attention on this special day.
1. Tomoko Kuroki (No Matter How I Look At It, It’s You Guys’ Fault I’m Not Popular!)
Tomoko will openly call herself a “mojo,” or an “unpopular girl.” She certainly fits the bill. She acts creepy and her face doesn’t exactly scream “friendly.” However, Tomoko strives to change herself and make more friends. She’s an introvert like many good otaku though, so it’s a lot of work. Tomoko would definitely be happy if she had a date for Valentine’s Day.
Nico Tanigawa — a pseudonym used by two people — first released their WataMote manga on August 4th, 2011. Square Enix has since published 24 volumes in Gangan Online.
2. Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End / Soso no Frieren)
Frieren is an immortal elf mage and legendary hero with a different concept of time and mortality. The legendary hero Himmel fostered strong romantic feelings for her, but was too subtle and she was a bit too dense, so nothing came from it. It would be many years later — well after his passing — that she realized the truth and lamented the loss. Perhaps another lucky guy can ask this cute anime girl out on a date for Valentine’s Day.
Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe released their manga series on April 28th, 2020. Shogakukan has since published twelve volumes in Weekly Shonen Sunday.
3. Rei Ayanami (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
This cool blue-haired beauty is as known for her EVA piloting skills as her quiet nature. Rei is efficient and dutiful in her work to fight the Angels and save humanity. However, she lacks communication skills, and due to her true nature, she might not have a grasp of what it is to be human. Since Shinji is off chasing that redhead Asuka, Rei needs a good date for Valentine’s Day. She might not speak much, but has a lot to offer her date.

Studio Gainax released this series from October 4th, 1995, to March 27th, 1996. However, there have been multiple additions to the series since then. There are many manga series and anime films that fans can enjoy too.
4. Yuki Nagato (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
Yuki is another quiet and studious girl with a withdrawn personality. She is a Data Overmind Humanoid Interface who observes humanity and its evolutionary process. Her primary target is Haruhi, the girl who can create miracles. Yuki befriended Kyon, and he became her confidant and guide to navigate human situations. Despite their bond, there is no romantic tension there. As such, Yuki is another quiet anime girl in need of a date. Perhaps a lucky guy can see her perform on stage, with or without a bunny suit.
Haruhi Suzumiya first manipulated the forces of space and time like mere playthings in the light novel series written by Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrated by Noizi Ito.
5. Haruko Haruhara (FLCL)
Haruko is a more dangerous anime girl to approach. She has an unhealthy fixation on the supreme being Atomsk. Haruko claims to want his power, but it’s pretty clear that she’s in love with him. It’s not clear how Atomsk feels about her, but he’s been known to take off more than once without a word directed at her. It’ll take a strong person to win Haruko over and take her on a date. She might wear that famous bunny suit, too.
Haruko first started smashing heads with a guitar in the epic anime series created and directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki, written by Yoji Enokido, and produced by the FLCL Production Committee, which consisted of Gainax, Production I.G, and King Records.
