May 29th is kimono day in Japan. It’s a fine day when cultured otaku have an excuse to admire girls wearing stylish kimonos. The date comes as a play on words. May 29th is written as Go-Fu-Ku (5-2-9), and gofuku is a term that indicates silk kimono fabric. With the explanation out of the way, let’s see how silk kimonos look on some cute anime girls.
1. Yugiri (Zombie Land Saga)
Yugiri is an undead idol and member of Franchouchou. She was a highly regarded courtesan who turned many heads with her voluptuous figure clad in fancy kimonos. Yugiri retains her preference for kimonos even in modern times.
Studios MAPPA, Avex Pictures, and Cygames created Zombie Land Saga together. The first anime season aired between October 4th, 2018, and December 20th, 2018, in twelve episodes.
2. Fuu Kasumi (Samurai Champloo)
Fuu lived during the Edo Period, so her wearing of a kimono is totally normal. She makes very efficient use of her lovely garb. Not only can she hide the flying squirrel Momo, but she can also hide explosives disguised as a large bust.

Shinichiro Watanabe and studio Manglobe created the Samurai Champloo anime. All 26 episodes aired from May 20th, 2004, to March 19th, 2005.
3. Homura Kogetsu (Edens Zero)
Homura and her sexy mother, Kurenai, prove that kimonos are timeless. Even in the far future, light-years from Earth, kimonos are still very much in style. Homura wears a kimono assortment in her everyday life, even during battle. One must look their best when confronting the enemy.
Hiro Mashima first began work on Edens Zero on June 27th, 2018. Kodansha has published 27 volumes in Weekly Shonen Magazine since then. J.C.Staff began airing its anime adaptation on April 11th, 2021.
4. Kaoru Kamiya (Rurouni Kenshin)
Kaoru is another classic beauty who lived during the Meiji Period when kimonos were typical attire for women. Unlike Homura, who keeps her attire choices consistent, Kaoru wears an uwagi and a hakama during training and combat.

Nobuhiro Watsuki created the original Rurouni Kenshin manga series between April 12th, 1994, and September 21st, 1999. Shueisha published all 28 volumes in Weekly Shonen Jump. Studio Gallop adapted the series to anime format starting January 10th, 1996.
5. Kagura (InuYasha)
Kagura is a wind demon forced into servitude by her creator, Naraku. Her wind magic and use of a feather for transport highlight her desire for freedom. As she is from the Sengoku Period, Kagura wears different kimono styles. Kagura looks fashionable regardless of color and style.

Rumiko Takahashi wrote and illustrated the original InuYasha manga series between November 13th, 1996, and June 18th, 2008. Shogakukan published all 56 volumes on the pages of Weekly Shonen Sunday. Sunrise began airing the anime adaptation on October 16th, 2000.
