The Kandagawa Jet Girls compete against the other Jet Racers in the final race of the Kandagawa Cup, leading to a thrilling conclusion.
#12 – “Our Jet Race”
Hmm.
All of Kandagawa Jet Girls’ six pairs raced against each other on the Kandagawa River! Can they do that? Was there enough room? The tunnel section looked very tight, so I’m glad that’s where there was a key bit of dramatic racing action. I guess the obstacle course was removed because there were no scenes of ramp jumps. The other racers provided enough obstacles.
I’m also glad the story of the Rin and Misa’s relationship reached its meaningful conclusion. The prize was always going to be the Kandagawa Jet Girls’ logo on the Orcano, and Misa finally let that happen.
I was sad about a couple of things, but they had nothing to do with Kandagawa Jet Girls’ storytelling. I really wanted the Great Nyu-Nyu to be real! Sure, Inori explained that the Kandagawa Guardian Spirit morphed into this urban legend, but I thought we could have had one more joke about why the Nyu-Nyu had a big pair of breasts on its back.
The other sad thing was how little racing action we saw from MKHU, the Baba Gyaru. Obviously, Yuzu and Manatsu got generous screen time and fanservice throughout the season, so I have no complaints there. To see more of their racing style in Kandagawa Jet Girls, I’ll just have to play the game. That’s more than enough incentive right there.
Heh.
What the…? Male characters with faces and eyes? Fumika’s dad makes him important enough, but the other dudes are a problem. Aw. Kuromaru is still on a diet, but she wants to eat that food!
Oh. This isn’t surprising. Rich girl Kaguya wanted a challenge in life and not just the easy way her lifestyle afforded her. But why Jet Racing? How did she get involved with the sport? What a gift for the last episode. Kaguya working out for fanservice!
Misa? Finally, yes, put on the logo with your cute face on it.
Race Day! Nice dolphin mascots. I wonder if the blue guy is the same character Rin still sleeps with. Oh. All six pairs are on the Kandagawa course. No more elimination races. Yay! The logo is on the machine!
Misa opened up about her past to Rin, so now they have no secrets between them. Except for the thing about Misa being madly in love with Rin. She’s saving it for the celebration after the race. Probably.
Race start! Fuuka gets rude right off the bat. Fuuka is crazy! She’s ramming everybody out of the way. Oh yes. Seeing Manatsu pilot that machine from behind! Ha! Mega Kute Hyper Ultra is a good translation for Maji Kawaii Hayai Umai.
The Boostless Queen boosts when she wants to. This is some game-specific info where the Messy jet has a longer boost than Dress’s machine.
Oh ho. Rin is going to do things her way. Bossy, isn’t she? Let’s see how she changes things up. Whoa. She’s boosting inside the tunnel! So, uh, did they kiss? In my mind, they did. Woohoo! They’re holding hands! That means the Kandagawa Jet Girls are more than racing partners. They’re also married in the yuri style, right? And Misa’s workout ended right there, huh?
Boosting in a tunnel, and now shooting while boosting. Rin and Misa are definitely doing things their way. Oh no. The Gyaru are trying to boost in the tunnel too. I see bad things happening here. Bad! That’s bad. Emily unleashed a big bomb in the middle of their scrum. Splashdown!
Inori takes her place in the final eye-catch of the Kandagawa Jet Girls season. She did a good job.
Good tactics here. Not fair to the Sea Serpents, but Dress and the Kandagawa Jet Girls gang up on them to force a shutdown. Nice shot, Red Two, uh, Misa!
And here comes the photo finish. It won’t be a tie in the final episode! Interesting. Neither Misa nor Rin got purged. And they’re having fun!
It looks like Dress ran out of river to make the finish line first. The Kandagawa Jet Girls win! Kiriko got loud! All the girls have great sportsmanship. The rivalry is friendship, even for the twin idols. Aw. Rin’s smile isn’t as big as when she was a child, but she’s getting there. Rin is so forward, Kyaa~!
And that’s the end. Play the video game. Buy the Blu-rays.
Final Thoughts.
“Cling to your Jetter,
then defeat the enemy,
by becoming one.”
Like the other anime based on Kenichirou Takaki’s video games, Senran Kagura and Valkyrie Drive Mermaid, Kandagawa Jet Girls focused on the relationships between the characters, with special attention paid to the yuri aspects of female friendships. Fans of both the games and the anime of those other titles should know by now that there is just not that much gameplay action adapted into an anime version. I’m on board with this, because if you want to see video game action, you should just go play the video game. The Kandagawa Jet Girls video game has a release date of January 16th for the PlayStation 4 console, so if you liked the racing action in the show, you can continue those adventures over there.
The main theme of the Kandagawa Jet Girls anime was that the best yuri makes the best team. There are many flavors of yuri, ranging from hetero yet curious yuri bait to lesbian married couple, so which one is the best? That’s up to you to decide. In Kandagawa Jet Girls, we saw the main six couples at different stages of their relationships, with our main characters Rin and Misa starting from the beginning. We saw that Fuuka and Inori were just a little bit ahead of them, but they also had issues to work out. Everyone else was already mature in their flavor of yuri relationships. What mattered for all these relationships was that it took time for them to grow close and improve their teamwork through the power of yuri. Rin and Misa’s relationship was the vehicle to show how a Shooter and Jetter become one.
If you missed out on the uncensored streams from HIDIVE, the first volume of disc sets will be out on January 24. Did you like how Rin and Misa got together? Also, which was your favorite couple? And who do you wish became a couple? I would have loved to have seen Manatsu and Emily as a Jetter and Shooter pair.
