Iori’s physics professor busts his friends’ balls, and the Peek-a-boo diving circle scares Chisa and Aina.
Episode 7 — “The Charpy Impact Test”
Hmm.
Have you noticed Chisa’s diving obsession yet? Grand Blue uses funny little moments to remind us about it. Of course, the easier way would be to show her stripping down to her bikini and into her wetsuit, but the anime has other plans. Instead, we get jokes about her diving DVD mixed up with a JAV, Chisa’s ocean sounds playlist, and her overcoming shyness by imagining new acquaintances could become diving buddies. However, Chisa’s fixation on diving serves other narrative purposes beyond situational humor.
The second season of Grand Blue often references its first season, as the story continues where it ended seven years ago. In the first season finale, Iori failed to qualify for his diving license. And then he couldn’t swim with Chisa near the Okinawa reefs. We saw him get it in Grand Blue S2, episode 2. But Chisa didn’t like seeing him miss out on diving with friends, which she expressed during her affectionate (for her) drunk talk. Chisa shows her care and love through her passion for diving. Iori had better earn some extra money, or he won’t be able to afford diving supplies or the charter boat ticket for Peek-a-boo’s annual diving trip. Get a job! Well, we saw how that turned out in the epilogue.
Speaking of that diving trip, I predict Grand Blue will save all of its hard and soft body fanservice for that season-ending arc. We should stop calling the anime an ecchi comedy midway through the season because this episode disabused us of that notion after it spent half the time baking a nut squash casserole. It’s a crude gag comedy with flashes (heh) of sexy fanservice from the beautiful ladies. We must be patient for a few weeks.
Grand Blue Makes Me Go Heh.
Hey, these college kids are, um, going to a college class! This physics lecturer, Ushironomiya, acts as if Roswaal from Re:Zero isekaied to the Grand Blue world (the episode credits confirm Takehito Koyasu as the voice actor). What are these torture devices behind him? Great. Busting balls and cracking nuts demonstrate the conversion of gravitational potential energy to kinetic energy. It’s math, people! Say goodbye to Shinchirou’s balls. The tragedy is that he never used them with a woman! Hahaha! Ushironomiya-kyouju (professor) said the boys wouldn’t need those nuts anyway because they’d be forever virgins! Ack. They made Kouhei go first. Everyone gets a turn in the torture device. Even Prof. Ushironomiya! Hahaha! Chisa was there the entire time!
Courage and Sanity Tests in Grand Blue
Road trip! Peek-a-boo has a summer camp? First item: a test of courage! The newbies must spend the night in an abandoned elementary school. Aw. Chisa’s music playlist only contains relaxing ocean wave sounds. Har. She does have one piece of music — Iori’s chuunibyou song! Stop before he dies of embarrassment! It’s not very nice to threaten boob fondling, Iori. But how did Chisa get it? Oh. Iori’s little sister (see Grand Blue S2, episode 2) is not his friend because Shiori sent it to Chisa!
I like this prefecture’s entrepreneurial spirit. It converted the closed-down school into a tourist experience, like an escape room. Aina hoped to make delightful school-setting memories, but she’ll have to take the test of courage first. Kouhei is more scared of damage to figurines than the jump scares. Yuck! The konjac jelly scare! But Iori and Kouhei’s version is worse. Konjac jelly as an onahole filler! Fun! That’s Azusa dressed up to scare Aina and Chisa. Who will frighten Iori and Kouhei? They’re more scared of their senpais than a real ghost. Look at that muscular foot!
How Low Can Grand Blue Go? Limbo!
Brewski time! We have confirmation that Azusa played the ghost girl for Aina. There are still no spirits anywhere because those blue flames come from alcohol. How about a regular flame for the bonfire? Much better. Oh? Will Aina get her wish of dancing with Iori around the fire? Not exactly… Limbo! Oh, come on, Grand Blue. How did a slab of konjac jelly get out there? It’s your standard accidental kiss scenario. That kiss doesn’t count, Chisa! And it was only on the forehead, anyway. Uh oh. She gargled with the high-octane spirits, so she’s drunk. Iori will have to put her to bed inside the school.
Chisa’s drunk talk is all about diving. She wants to make sure Iori can join the club underwater next time the club goes diving.
Get a job! Oh, he did! He’s a part-timer at a family restaurant. Ack! His coworker is Sakurako!
Next time, Sakurako takes her revenge!

How do you feel about college kids still doing tests of courage at a summer camp? At least they did college things, like drinking and naked limbo, afterward.
