Hayato’s decision to reopen the Familia Café Terrace and live with five beautiful girls becomes a real chore.
Episode 2 — “A Promise with Grandma”
Hmm.
What happens when an accountant tries to run a business? Goddess Café Terrace quickly dumped ice water over Hayato’s arrogance. The backroom numbers guy can read a ledger and complain about red numbers on the bottom line, but he has no interpersonal skills. He also didn’t pay close enough attention to how his grandmother brewed coffee. It’s clear how the five goddesses will plug holes in the upstart café owner’s skill stack.
Riho, the conniving manipulator, will be a formidable negotiator as she supports business relations with the Familia Café Terrace’s local vendors. The end credits and episode preview show viewers that Ouka is studying fashion, so she’ll be next up to help Hayato in Goddess Café Terrace. What other outfits will she design for her sister goddesses to wear? I can’t wait to see them!
The Bathos Melodrama Meter!
It’s easy to be on guard for Goddess Café Terrace sliding over the edge into bathos. All you need to do is look out for those flashbacks of Grandma and see if they annoy you. Grandma hit those nostalgic points when she stressed how the trusty bean grinder made the signature taste for the café. Things got iffy when Grandma’s flashback scored harem points.
Akane flashed her teasing mystique at Hayato when she recalled Grandma describing his sulky tsundere admissions of fault. Now she’ll employ her seductive mischief to provoke reactions from the harem master, adding to her Cool Charm points.
But Goddess Café Terrace fell down the stairs of bathos with one comedic device. Literally! Staircases magically avoid severe injury for slapstick antics and fanservice. Hayato should have been in the hospital twice, especially likely when he tumbled down the stone steps leading from a shrine’s hilltop. The backroom accountant has supernatural healing abilities.
Protecting the Nest Points.
Ami scored the most Nest Protector points by bashing Hayato for being a lucky sukebe. She simultaneously scored baka points when she declared, “World peace, and all girls in this house, are under my protection!” However, Ami did a poor job of protecting her purity when she beat him in the bathroom while they both were naked. That’s two episodes in a row of Ami’s nude beatdowns. So, she might become the kinky dominatrix in Goddess Café Terrace.
Riho scored economic Nest Protector points when she made up for Hayato’s lack of interpersonal skills with Familia Café Terrace’s vendors and customers. It was in the context of scoring harem points and trying to put him in traction by falling down some unforgiving stone steps.
Grandma’s Little Girl Points.
Akane scored points with Grandma by learning how to make coffee her way and enjoying her stories about Hayato’s sulky face. But Shiragiku was Grandma’s Little Girl for the episode when she insisted on sitting down for family meals. She’s also the cook of the ad hoc “family,” so she’s scoring housewife points too.
Baka Charm Points.
We can already award the Baka Charm winner for the Goddess Café Terrace season to Ami. That’s her character type as the genki muscle head, so we can expect her to run away with the most points each episode. All we can hope for is finding a distant second place. Silver goes to Shiragiku for her unsuccessful attempts at using less polite language. She tried her best.
Drunk Girl Points.
There was only one Drunk Girl point to award in the episode. Akane remarked how sipping an alcoholic drink while watching cherry blossoms fall at night sounds nice. Shiragiku warned her that she was still underage. But our resident Drunk Girl asserted her bona fide in the Goddess Café Terrace preview. In the unrelated voiceover, Hayato wondered if the girls were 痴女 (chijo, female pervert) because they kept flashing him. But Riho claimed Shiragiku was the only one since her low tolerance makes removing her inhibitions easy, turning her into a huntress for male musk! I can’t wait to see Shiragiku in action next episode!
Cool Charm Points.
Akane will run away with the Cool Charm prize this season too. I’m waiting to see what her weakness will be. What will her face look like when she blushes vulnerably?
Heh.
Oh. Finally. Thanks, Goddess Café Terrace. Hayato asked who are these people and what are their names? But enough about useless information — they need to do chores! Harsh. Hayato accused the girls of putting his grandma into an early grave! The old lady ran the café and did all the household chores! Good luck, Hayato. Girls living on their own are gross. His new roommates keep forgetting Hayato lived with this lady his whole life until high school.
Shiragiku guilted Hayato into eating with the girls. They made a promise to his grandma, so he better keep it! If Shiragiku is cooking instead of Ouka, that’s an easy promise to keep. What’s for dessert? Bathtub fanservice! Goddess Café Terrace has a simple rule: every sexy flash requires a payment of violence. Ami protects girls and world peace.
Hayato claimed he could run the café, so let’s see him make coffee. The goddesses are skeptical, and rightly so. Because his coffee tastes terrible! What went wrong? Akane scores harem points by teaching him the steps he missed after he watched his grandma brewing coffee. Time for more fanservice revenge from Ami.
Riho will be Hayato’s local guide for the café’s vendors. He is not likable as a sulky teenager, but Riho’s people skills smooth things over. Here comes more violent payback for enjoying flashy panties. Riho’s love fortune puts waifu points on the board as she knocks Hayato flat.
Goddess Café Terrace has the ending theme song and credits in the second episode. Next time, the goddesses wear uniforms, and Shiragiku gets drunk again.
