Ganbare Doukichan, Episode 11: Here Comes the Bride

Episode 11 – “It Finally Bears Fruit!! Good for You, Doukichan”

Hmm.

Everybody loves a wedding. Ganbare Doukichan has been hinting about this event since Kouhaichan sent Doukikun a sexy maid picture. We never met the coworker who was getting married, but she’s not essential to the story. Her circumstances allowed for sexy maid cosplay from Doukichan too. It wasn’t clear whether the female colleagues dressed up like that for the bridal shower, the bachelorette party, or the wedding reception. We just watched the reception this week, and there was not a sexy maid in sight.

The wedding reception scene revealed some fun news about the Sync Agency’s office hierarchy. Doukichan is the de facto floor boss of Ganbare Doukichan! We should expect that someone as diligent and neurotic as Doukichan would accumulate clout and authority. It’s the same vibe as a class representative. She’s not popular from her looks and sexiness like the “idol” Kouhaichan. But she adeptly gives commands to her male colleagues to manage the drunk flirt.

The wedding reception is the perfect time for Doukikun to show the quality of his character. Ganbare Doukichan has done well to present scenes of Doukikun being honorable and attentive to Doukichan. Too noble for Doukichan’s taste, especially in the shared hotel room and trapped elevator episodes. But he only had eyes for Doukichan this week. My heart swelled when Doukichan admired the bride’s beauty, and Doukikun agreed while looking straight at Doukichan. The most beautiful woman in the wedding chapel for Doukikun was not the bride on her wedding day.

Ganbare Doukichan competently executed its cliffhanger for the season finale next week. Can Doukikun overcome his tentativeness? Will he show his connection to Doukikun when it matters? He had so many near misses during the season, so timing that climax during the last episode would be right on schedule. Sending a text near bedtime won’t cut it. Ganbare, Doukikun!

Heh.

Aw. Doukichan makes a beautiful bride. You can tell this is a daydream because it shows Kouhaichan biting her handkerchief in frustration. Stop it, title card! You’re not helping Doukichan’s delusions.

So, yes, remember that coworker from earlier in the Ganbare Doukichan season? Who was getting married and made her colleagues wear maid uniforms? It’s her wedding day! Doukichan can’t help but imagine herself in the place of the bride, saying her vows to Doukikun. She remarks to him how pretty the bride is, but Doukikun can only look at Doukichan. Kyaa! He laid down his most romantic and forward line of the season, and Doukikun didn’t notice it.

Wedding reception fun. The couple includes western-style traditions, like throwing the bridal bouquet. Of course, Doukichan and Kouhaichan take the omen seriously. We should also take it seriously. After a comical slapstick collision with Kouhaichan, Doukichan caught the bridal bouquet by pure circumstance. Let’s call that the metaphor for the entire Ganbare Doukichan series. Aw. A little girl wanted the bridal bouquet too, so Doukichan gave it to her. She did save one flower petal for herself. That looks like a critical moment…

Bah. The groom did not throw the bride’s garter to the eligible bachelors. From experience, I can tell you this tradition is not as predictive as regular dudes would hope. I needed to give one garter back to the new husband because I felt uncomfortable holding my younger cousin’s warm unmentionable. It’s also a western tradition for the two catchers to dance during the wedding reception, so I still had fun.

Those wedding reception ceremonies are over, so it’s time to drink in Ganbare Doukichan. Kouhaichan leads the way. Straight to get getting frisky with Doukikun. Doukichan handles her like a boss. She got all the young bucks in the office to carry Kouhaichan away from Doukikun! Have none of these guys gone drinking with Kouhaichan after work? Anime and manga reliably informed me that Salarymen and Office Ladies drink heavily together. Sync Agency must have cliques.

Eep! It’s time to introduce drama before the Ganbare Doukichan season ends. Other men from the wedding reception think Doukichan is pretty. Wall slam! Here comes Doukichan’s knight in shining armor. He paid attention to the flower petal she saved. Coming in hot for the rescue!

Illustrator Hechima shows Doukichan playing a bride with the help of curtains in the end card.

Ganbare Doukichan streams weekly in multiple subtitles on Crunchyroll and VRV.
