Despite the Winter 2021 anime season feeling a bit scant in comparison to the Spring, there are still anime and manga announcements to get people excited. And if you’re the kind of person who likes a well-muscled man in uniform then Ascendent Animation has the anime for you.
Fresh off of dubbing anime like Ishida and Asakura and The Titan’s Bride, the studio has announced that it’ll be dubbing Fire in His Fingertips–My Childhood Friend is a Fireman along with its sequel Fire in His Fingertips 2–My Boyfriend is a Fireman in collaboration with WWWaveCorp and Suiseisha Inc. The premise is fairly simple, as 24-year-old office lady Ryō Fujihashi’s apartment has caught fire. The fireman that comes to her rescue is none other than her childhood friend, Sōma Mizuno, and ecchi hijinks ensue once Ryō realizes she’s caught feelings for her womanizing friend.
The script’s English adaptation will be written by Kevin Frane, with Michaela Laws directing, K. Cornell Kellum as executive producer, and Steve Warkey Nunez as audio engineer and mixer. No word on the cast list or the date of the dub release. Seven Seas is localizing the manga, which to be fair, has an objectively better title than the standard “My Blank is a Blank” format. Tell me you honestly wouldn’t be at least a little bit more intrigued if the anime was titled Fire in His Fingertips: A Flirty Fireman Ravishes Me With His Smoldering Gaze? At least we’d have a better understanding of what you’re getting into, at least in terms of the series being a little more ecchi than a straight romance anime.
As both seasons are fairly short, around eight episodes each, this series would be an easy watch for anyone looking to bridge the gap between Winter season releases. It’s also most likely a good watch for people who like the firefighter premise a la Fire Force, or those who like their bishonen with a heavy side of beefcake. Seriously, it’s hard to argue with the amount of straight beefcake this series provides, seeing as the second season was so well received in Japan, a dakimakura of the main character was released.
