Usually, a hentai manga volume release is one of two kinds. Most of the time, they’re a collection of separate stories bundled together in a big anthology. Other times, the book is a single, multi-chapter story with a rich world and a large cast of characters. In My Bride is the Demon Lord, Nanase Mizuho manages to put together a volume containing both of these types of collections, and the result is a solid book sure to please anyone.
There’s a lot of content in My Bride is the Demon Lord, but a majority of the book focuses on the 140-page story of the said demon lord. Long ago, all of humanity was locked in a war with a raging demonic army. Humankind was on the brink of defeat, until a hero appeared and defeated the leader of the demonic forces, the demon lord. Our story flashes forward to a peaceful present day, where the triumph of the hero against the demon lord is simply history. At Seirou Academy sorcery school, a beautiful and slender new transfer student named Lina arrives. She makes her introductions in class, but quickly goes nuclear when she spots a boy named Yuuya. Yuuya is the descendant of the legendary hero, and Lina is none other than the grandchild of the demon lord.
She isn’t here to destroy Yuuya, though. After cornering him alone in the nurse’s office, she reveals the true story of the hero and the demon lord; the demon lord was raging because she was sexually aroused, and the only person she could sleep with is someone from the hero’s bloodline. Now, Lina is the one filled with sexual rage, and Yuuya is the only one she can be with. She forces herself onto the descendant of the hero, and he quickly gives in to temptation and uses the power bestowed upon him by his lineage to satiate the thirst of the demon lord Lina.
This opening chapter is a lot of fun and sets the tone of My Bride is the Demon Lord really well. The main character Yuuya is a bit of a one-dimensional protagonist, doing all of the generic harem hero antics without showing off any kind of unique personality. Thankfully, Lina makes up for his lack of personality with a heaping helping of charm. She’s sly, confident, and incredibly flirtatious, exuding an aura of dominant energy that I couldn’t get enough of. At the same time, though, she has moments of weakness and innocence that add some variety to the events of the story. She has clumsy moments of tripping mid-battle, and she has the tables turned on her when the hero awakens to his true lust and she’s unable to handle the power of his, um, “sacred blade.”
The art in My Bride is the Demon Lord is also stellar. Every girl in the manga has a delightfully tall and toned body, with incredible thighs and gorgeous chests. Nanase Mizuho excels at drawing tight clothes that cling to the form, resulting in a number of sexy pages where the women of the story are spilling out of their school uniforms or wearing mesmerizing, skin-tight gym uniforms. Admittedly, there isn’t a huge amount of variety to the body types in the manga. Each member of the hero’s harem has an almost identical body frame and face, with the only significant differences being their hair-styles and breast-sizes. Still, despite the lack of varied character designs, everyone in the book is drop-dead gorgeous, and every sex scene in the manga is full of juicy detail that left me wanting more.
As the story of My Bride is the Demon Lord progresses, there are plenty of twists and turns that kept me interested. Once word spreads around the school that Yuuya is the descendant of the legendary hero, other girls besides Lina gain interest in experiencing his heroic sexual might. The student council president Haruna ends up recruiting him and Lina to seemingly put their magical strength to use in an upcoming school tournament. However, members of the student council like Fuuka begin taking a very personal interest in Yuuya, and slowly but surely, the harem of the hero is formed.
In a standout chapter, student council scientist Chihiro invites Yuuya to her private laboratory to discuss something. She reveals that she knows about the women that Yuuya has been fooling around with inside the student council club room. Furthermore, she’s discovered that after Fuuka had sex with the descendant of the hero, her magic strength increased exponentially. Chihiro decides to blackmail Yuuya into letting her join his harem so that she can perform thorough hands-on experimentation with him, and record every second of it. I loved the emotionless energy and scientific genius of Chihiro, and the way it contrasted with her absolute lack of sexual experience. When the two start fooling around, she doesn’t even understand why his dick is soft at first. As the two continue, though, she improves her sexual skills and begins to get an insatiable appetite for making love.
There is also a handful of standalone, anthology stories included in My Bride is the Demon Lord. One of my favorites is the short and sweet chapter “Succu-Life Side 2 Yuuka Returns.” In this, a beautiful and busy succubus has just finished having her way with a young man named Kenji. Another succubus, the petite and devilish Yuuka-chan, arrives to get her own shot at Kenji, though. He refuses at first, but she quickly uses brainwashing seduction magic to tempt him into an afternoon of rough, steamy sex with the petite succubus. The art in this chapter is absolutely some of the best in the book, with incredible blowjob scenes that blow everything else in the book out of the water. I also loved the design of Yuuka; her revealing leather succubus outfit was one of the most striking visuals in the entire book.
Overall, it’s hard not to recommend My Bride is the Demon Lord. The entire volume includes not only a full-length multi-chapter story, but a collection of standalone anthology chapters to boot. Each one is packed full of erotic art, fun characters, and memorable designs, and even shortcomings like a generic protagonist or lack of character variety are made up for by the strengths of this great book.
