Plenty of new anime is debuting in April at the start of the spring anime season, from highly-anticipated action series to exciting sequels to existing mega-hit anime. A few shows are set to arrive a little later in the year, however, during July. The latest show to fall into that timeframe is EX-ARM, an upcoming manga adaptation sure to please fans of flashy action-adventure series.

Based on the manga of the same name by Shinya Komi and HiRock, EX-ARM is a crime battle action series that focuses on high schooler Akira Natsume. When he’s involved in a gruesome traffic accident, only his brain is able to be salvaged. When he wakes up, he finds his brain has been installed into an advanced police bio-weapon. Now, Akira must cooperate with the police EX-ARM countermeasure division to fight fearsome foes and regain his lost memories and destroyed body.

The original manga was launched by Komi and HiRock in Shueisha’s Grand Jump magazine back in February of 2015. It’s actually a remake of the manga EX-VITA. In December of 2017, the series moved to the Shonen Jump+ website where it continued to run until it ended on June 26 of last year.

Additionally, Komi launched a manga adaptation of Ataro Kumo’s EX-ARM the Novel spinoff story in Shueisha’s Ultra Jump magazine earlier this year, on February 19. The new spinoff manga is titled EX-ARM Another Code. Additionally, another spinoff manga from Komi and HiRock, titled EX-ARM EXA, launched in Shueisha’s Grand Jump Mucha magazine on August 28 of 2019.

A synopsis of the original series, according to MyAnimeList:

2014: Akira Natsume seems to almost have a phobia of electrical devices while also being very good at diagnosing them. He resolves to change himself for the better and get a girlfriend like his older brother did. …But then Akira suddenly dies in an accident. 16 years later a special policewoman and her android partner retrieve and activate a highly advanced AI and superweapon called EX-ARM and put it into full control of their ship as a last resort. Turns out the AI is actually just Akira’s brain!
