DRAMAtical Murder’s Cyberpunk Turf Wars

in Featured, Visual Novels

In the bright cyberpunk world of DRAMAtical Murder, there are two main pastimes among the disaffected population: Rib, a real-world turf war between gangs whose members are called Ribsteez, and Rhyme, a virtual reality battle game that can deal real-world damage to its participants.

Ribsteez and Rhymers have very low opinions of one another, and the two groups clash frequently. One of the decisions that the player has to make in controlling Aoba, the protagonist of DRAMAtical Murder, is over which group he aligns himself with in one such scuffle.

Rhyme takes place in digital battle arenas, each one designed to reflect the tastes of the player initiating the battle. Official battles look official, their arenas a standard blue space, while unofficial clashes can take on extremely unique, sometimes eerie appearances.

Players in Rhyme are assisted by their Allmates, which appear as small robotic companion animals in the real world — like an iPhone, but fluffy! — and manifest in Rhyme as more elaborate digital forms capable of attack and defense.
