Given how popular Dr. Stone has been, both in manga and anime form, it seems unsurprising that it’s gotten a new season. The upcoming Dr. Stone New World promises to be more than just “more of the same.” If anything, you can expect this to be a new chapter of mad science. It comes out this April 6th, 2023.

J-List’s Justin James has already covered the PV and announcement.
For those unfamiliar with Dr. Stone, this is the latest adaptation of the popular manga by Riichiro Inagaki (of Eyeshield 21 fame) and Korean artist Mujiki “Boichi” Park (creator of Sun-Ken Rock). Spanning light novels, an announced mobile game, and even a spin-off manga written by Boichi, the series covers the adventures of Senku Ishigami (Yuusuke Kobayashi), a brilliant high school wunderkind who one day is suddenly frozen in stone, along with almost everyone else on Earth. Fast-forward to the year 5738 and Senku, through sheer willpower, wakes up to a planet where everything he once knew is long gone. That doesn’t stop him, his childhood friends Taiju Oki (Makoto Furukawa) and Yuzuriha Ogawa (Kana Ichinose), or his budding “Kingdom of Science” from rebuilding civilization from scratch. Now having learned of a mysterious chest from the “100 Tales” left behind by his long-dead father Byakuya, Senku, and company aim to sail towards an island where survivors from the International Space Station crash-landed millennia ago. Whatever they find there, it’s bound to be exhilarating.
Covering the Treasure Island Arc of the manga, expect New World to be both full of mystery and science-induced action. Without spoiling too much, this season gives you a glimpse into what happened in the millennia-long time skip, including the ultimate fate of those astronauts who escaped the petrification. There are also tantalizing clues about the enigmatic Why-Men and perhaps a vital key in awakening everyone else. Though as the Kingdom of Science finds out, some dangers remain all too close to home.
Unlike the previous seasons, Shūhei Matsushita takes the reins as director. While a relative newcomer compared to his predecessor, Shinya Iino, his work in titles ranging from the first two Rebuild of Evangelion films to co-directorial duties for Deemo Memorial Keys in 2021 is nothing to scoff at. He also has the returning crew from TMS Entertainment to back him up as well, with Yuichiro Kido (who contributed to Star Wars: Visions in 2021) again on board as the main writer. Also coming back are the majority of the voice cast, with rising star Yuusuke Kobayashi, whose role in 2015’s The Heroic Legend of Arslan helped propel him to fame, once more playing Senku. Osaka native Kengo Kawanishi is in as the reawakened magician Gen Asagiri.
