I wrote earlier this month about how mixx garden, a restaurant in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro entertainment district, is running a theme café based on popular ship girl mobile game Azur Lane through the month of January. February will still have ship girl-themed offerings, but the trappings will change from the German Iron Bloods to the American Eagle Union girls.
While the Iron Bloods stand-in for Nazi Germany’s Kriegsmarine with their edgy Teutonic design, the Eagle Union features the good old American can-do Enterprise attitude that won out over Deutschland’s chuunibyou. I went ahead and translated the enthusiastically American drinks and dishes for you:
The omurice dish, which doesn’t have any particular character’s name on it, may be a reference to volume 2, chapter 5 of the Azur Lane Comic Anthology by Fumii, wherein the Eagle Union girls dress as maids and write sweet things in ketchup on omurice for the Commander. Cleveland’s is deemed the best.
For presentation, the German plates have been swapped with a brighter color palette and feature your eight American ladies decked out in their waitress wear. Only Hammann looks like she’d rather be somewhere else, but you know she’s just tsundere. Mixx warns that your themed food won’t necessarily be served on the appropriate girl’s plate since they come out randomly.
If you’d like to take any of the waitresses home, mixx has the same styled keychains and badges on offer that they did for the Iron Bloods, but with your Eagle Union girls this time. They also have two exclusive tapestries for sale that they haven’t revealed online, and we’ll have to see in the shop to get the full picture. Finally, they’re selling a phone case that lists, in English, the name and type of every Eagle Union ship available right now. It’s a long list.
Iron Blood café merchandise has so far not been offered for sale anywhere else. Having been unable to make it to Ikebukuro, I’m missing out on my waitress Roon.
The Eagle Union collaboration event with mixx garden runs from February 1st through 28th, after the Iron Blood café closes on January 31st. You can make reservations on their website or by phone. Mixx garden’s Twitter gives regular updates on availability.
Another Ikebukuro outfit, Gz Café, had a Royal Navy-themed Azur Lane café collaboration in July.
