Pass Me the Monster Meat, Milady is two episodes in, and it’s one of the best romance anime I’ve seen in a while. The 2025 fall anime season has twenty romance shows (that’s almost half of all scheduled anime). I’d bet a doujin (this doujin) that of those, maybe five will have meaningful progress. Thankfully, Pass Me the Monster Meat, Milady, decided it had had enough of that “forbidden hand holding” gimmick and rushed into a confession and proposal. I may giggle every time I hear the name “Aristide Rogier du Galbraith,” but I have to respect game when I see it. That dude is a walking green flag, and Mel-chan’s a SSR gacha draw too! So, if you only have time for a few romance shows this season, Pass Me the Monster Meat, Milady needs to be one.
Pass Me the Monster Meat, Milady — Synopsis
Being born into generational wealth will provide advantages. But that money does little to comfort solitude. That’s a sentiment that Melphiera Marchalrayd painfully understands. Despite her blessings of wealth and beauty, Mel-chan lives a solitary life. As a noble, she’s supposed to indulge in fine dining. But one’s experiences always outweigh societal expectations. And Mel-chan has long seen how those who live in her wintry domain struggle to grow “normal” crops and food. Wishing to provide her subjects with a more accessible source of protein, Mel-chan carries her mother’s dream of turning monster meat into acceptable cuisine. But instead of rewards, her efforts and penchant for unusual cuisine isolate her from her high-society peers.
Despite knowing that she’s unwanted at beau monde events, Mel-chan diligently attends mixers and dinners. After all, her goals don’t negate that, as a noble, marriage is of the utmost importance. Though Pass Me the Monster Meat, Milady makes it evident that marriage is something Mel-chan has no interest in. Yet her willingness to attend these functions leads to her meeting the “Blood-Mad Duke,” Aristide Rogier du Galbraith.
Some folks don’t buy into love at first sight. Luckily, Mel-chan and du Galbraith aren’t those folks. All it took was one encounter for them to realize they’re two halves of the same whole. By the end of the second episode, against all the usual romance anime rules, there’s a proposal. And the catalyst for all of this? Well, it was a shared bond over the goodness of monster meat!

How and Why People Fall in Love
The way people fall in love or give in to attraction has always fascinated me. I’ve always believed that people too often romanticize romance. I scoff at the notion that falling in love is this ultra-special, once-in-a-lifetime moment. The most honest depiction of love’s value (that I’ve so far seen) comes from Monogatari’s Hachikuji when she said that “the convenience store was selling it for 298 yen.” Love and attraction are some of the cheapest and quickest emotions you can collect in life, and Pass Me the Monster Meat, Milady knows this.
All Melphy and Blood-Mad needed to fall for each other was sexual attraction and shared interests. There’s often no need for characters to have a prolonged, 12-episode-long marathon of emotions to finally understand that they love/like each other. Oftentimes, all that’s needed for you to end up with your soulmate is thinking, “I want to shag that person,” approaching them, and then realizing you two vibe off. Thanks to everyone who worked on Pass Me the Monster Meat, Milady for taking a straightforward approach.

Kashou’s Romance Ramblings
The sentimental part of me and the logical part of me always quarrel when it comes to the topic of romance. But Kashou’s logical side knows that not everyone finds it easy to express their feelings. So, I can’t expect others to act the way I would. I may not like wishy-washy romances with no progress like Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro or A Couple of Cuckoos, but others do. Many folks enjoy that “will they, won’t they” tension. While the only thing I get from someone holding my hand is annoyance, for others, that tiny gesture is a comforting, almost mind-numbing feeling. And that’s where Pass Me the Monster Meat, Milady really shines. The show appeals to viewers who love innocent moments — such as blushing cheeks and embarrassed glances — and those who appreciate the progress in relationships. In the world of romance anime, that’s pretty rare.

Pass Me the Monster Meat, Milady is what you get when you take the best parts of romance anime and mix them together. The show features a supportive, appreciative couple-to-be, a hint of visible attraction between them, and more green flags than a St. Patrick’s Day parade. This is the kind of romance anime that should serve as an example of how you should treat your partner, and I honestly can’t recommend it enough.
