Is It Okay to Watch Anime After Age 30? Of Course!
The other day I sat down to watch the outstanding Space Battleship Yamato Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 Blu-ray that had just come out. I sat there, whisky in hand, enthralled to have my beloved Be Forever Yamato film translated into a modern new version. I realized I’d been a fan of this series for 45 years. That’s quite a long time to be an active fan of something!
The notion that we should stop watching anime once we hit 30 is ridiculous. Over the past few decades, it’s become clear that “nerd culture” is at the forefront of our modern world. From superhero movies to cosplay to anime, we’ve shown that “nerds” have always been the cool ones.
Let’s see why no one should stop watching anime after 30!
Anime Is a Medium, Not a Genre
You never hear that people should “stop reading novels” or “stop watching movies” after a certain age. Anime is the same thing, merely a medium for telling awesome stories from Japan. While we might outgrow some genres like shounen or mecha, there are always new genres waiting for us to discover them.
Anime Is a Big Tent Filled with Endless Stories
One of anime’s greatest strengths is its ability to tell virtually any kind of story. Whether you’re craving epic fantasy, hard-hitting drama, mind-bending science fiction, or romance anime with stories you can’t stop thinking about, there’s always another fresh story waiting for anime fans. And when you think you’ve explored every genre, we get something completely original like TsumaSho.
Anime Makes Us Happy and Keeps Us Young
As I’ve written before, being an anime fan makes us happier. We’re constantly learning new words and concepts, which keeps our brains young. And looking at colorful and uplifting images can only improve our mental health!
