Takuya Aihara went through three different genderswap adventures in the legendary X-Change trilogy. A cool guy became a cute girl, and everyone wanted to have fun with him (her?). Takuya’s fate would drastically change depending on the choices players made. There’s a different genderswap protagonist to help this time around. Kaoru Sakurazuka’s unique DNA and his cold bring some unexpected changes in Yin-Yang! X-Change Alternative.
A Yin-Yang! X-Change Alternative Genderswap Story
Kaoru Sakurazuka took after his mother more than his father. Although the name “Kaoru” suits both boys and girls, bullies often target him because of his feminine appearance and modest personality. His father usually encouraged him to stand up for himself and act like a man. Those lessons persisted even after his father passed away.
Kaoru has grown up and becomes strong enough to fight a group of bullies. He even shares an apartment with his friends Touya Sakaki and Renji Saotome. Though things seem fine, frequent body aches and fatigue have plagued Kaoru. A cute fellow student eventually found him unconscious behind the school. The school’s eccentric doctor, Soumei Kuzunoha, offers Kaoru a “Health Drink” that should help him. It didn’t do much, and — rather than wait for the doctor — Kaoru took an unlabeled vial from the doctor’s desk the next day.
This proved to be a poor idea. This drink combined Kaoru’s unique “yin-yang DNA” to turn him into a girl. All the people who find him cute and sexy now impede his path to normalcy. His friends won’t even try to hide their wandering eyes, nor will his enemies. Even the people he only briefly spoke with want to take him — now her — to bed.
A Cute and Sexy Visual Novel
Kaoru’s tale plays out in a visual novel, pure and simple. Well, not pure. Players will spend their time clicking through lots of lewd content. Unlike Raidy or Eiyu Senki, Yin-Yang! X-Change Alternative is a visual novel lacking an extra gameplay mechanic to explore. Players will click through to read the story. Branching paths lead to different endings depending on the player’s choice.
There are multiple opportunities for Kaoru to get intimate with different characters. Both men and women can get close. This happens in solo or even group settings. A certain girl is present with a surprise for Kaoru. Look up the term “futanari,” and you’ll know what she’s packing. All of this depends on player choice, so players get to decide how much of a player they want Kaoru to be.

The Sounds of Genderswap Romance
Voice actors have recorded each line of dialogue in Yin-Yang! X-Change Alternative. They voice every character exceptionally well, even Kaoru’s departed father. The background music and sound effects are also present and high quality. I mentioned earlier that players can mute the male voices to create a more immersive and female-focused audio experience. The music is a highlight here; it definitely came from 2006. It’s a classic soundtrack for fans of older visual novels.
Conclusion
Fans of the original X-Change trilogy know what to expect with Yin-Yang! X-Change Alternative. This novel has the same beats as the other three, and it’s a guaranteed fun time for cultured otaku. The game sets up the world and characters with careful detail, so it’ll be a while before we see Kaoru look cute and feminine. I understand how some people want to jump into the fun, but they should be patient while the main course preps. Overall, this visual novel has aged beautifully. The futanari parts might turn some people off, and there may be a scene or two where Kaoru isn’t up for something with the bullies. However, fans of genderswap fun or just lewd fun with cute anime girls will surely enjoy this novel.
