Three Reasons Why Atri: My Dear Moments Will Make You Smile

in Your Friend in Japan

The current anime season brings us not one but two series about romance with cute robot girls. BokuTsuma lets us wonder what it would be like to have a robot wife, while Atri -My Dear Moments- gives us a story about a futuristic moe robot girl in a post-apocalyptic water world. Let’s explore what this anime has to offer in this blog post!

Great news! J-List is having a $40-off-$200-or-more holiday coupon you can use for all in-stock items shipping from Japan! (Except calendars and Lucky Boxes.) This means you can make a big order of ecchi products for men, manga and doujinshi, JAV DVDs and Blu-rays, or hentai products and save big. Start browsing here!

Atri: My Dear Moments Is a Futuristic Robot Love Story

Back in 2019, if fans had a nickel for every time a main character had to insert a suppository into his crush’s butthole because she had a fever, they’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice. I feel the same way about writing back-to-back blog posts about anime series involving romance with cute robot girls.

Atri -My Dear Moments- is an anime by Aniplex with a unique premise. Several years ago, the oceans began rising, swallowing much of human civilization. Those caught up in the crisis lost all hope as society around them crumbled. This includes the main character Natsuki Ikaruga, who has lost both his oceanographer mother and his leg in tragedy. One day, Natsuki takes his small submarine to investigate his mother’s submerged home and finds a Humanoid, a human-like robot named Atri, that his mother owned when she was alive.

What exactly is Atri? She’s a Humanoid android in the form of a cute girl. She thinks she’s a genius high-performance robot but sets the kitchen on fire every time she cooks. She’s got a secret — a final command given to her by Natsuki’s mother — but she can’t remember what it is. Oh, and she hates being called a “piece of scrap.”

Atri may be a combat robot designed to bring war and destruction to the world…or maybe she’s just got a case of robotic chunibyou and was constructing internal fantasies. We’ll find out when the series ends!

Atri: My Dear Moments Feels Like Nostalgia

A good anime based on a visual novel gets me misty-eyed, reminding me of the golden age of legendary shows based on VNs. Back in the 2000s, we got such memorable visual-novel-to-anime adaptions as Air (2005), the proper remake of Kanon (2006), and Clannad and Clannad After Story (2007-2009). These were seminal moments in anime history, cementing Kyoto Animation as Japan’s top animation studio. While they were airing, fans all around the world were held in rapture by the fantastic stories based on “porn games from Japan” (except Clannad).

Atri My Dear Moments Does It Make You Happy If I Have A Heart?

Atri: My Dear Moments definitely seems like it’s trying to be a love letter to fans of that classic era. We have a cute-but-clumsy robot to charm our hearts. Lots of developed side characters, and amazing visuals. Best of all, we get a story with the potential for a highly emotional payoff as the rest of the series unfolds, like we all got to experience in years gone by.

It Feels Like The Fruit of Grisaia

While watching the show, I couldn’t help but think the creators had been inspired by the Fruit of Grisaia series. The main character had the same aloof feel and the same deadpan delivery of tsukkomi lines to comedic setups by the other characters. Imagine my surprise when I read that the visual novel was not only made by the same company (Frontwing) but by the same writer (Makura). Naruhodo!

Sadly (or not, depending on your viewpoint), this anime doesn’t share Grisaia’s penchant for showing us sexy fan service, other than a few swimsuit scenes. Instead, it’s got a solid story with excellent characters and plenty of emotional energy as the story unfolds. I’m totally enjoying it, and will definitely keep watching!

Thanks for reading this blog post about the Atri: My Dear Moments anime. Do you need a cute robot girl in your life? Then check out this great anime today!
