Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out (Seishun Buta Yarou wa Odekake Sister no Yume wo Minai) is a sequel movie to Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl, which itself is a movie continuation of the anime series Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. This rascal has a lot going on for him, doesn’t he? Unlike the previous entries, the focus will be on Sakuta’s younger sister Kaede.
The movie is set to release on June 23rd, 2023. We can enjoy this trailer, which has cute and heartbreaking moments until then.
CloverWorks has maintained an active home page and official Twitter page to stay connected with fans and provide updates concerning their work on the Rascal Does Not Dream of series. Extras, like the Key Visuals below, can be found there.
A Loss of Self
Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out continues the trend of a silly title being used on a peculiarly dramatic series. Just like Sakuta Azusagawa (voice — Kaito Ishikawa) and Mai Sakurajima (voice — Asami Seto), Kaede Azusagawa (voice — Yurika Kubo), Sakuta’s younger sister, suffers from Adolescence Syndrome. When she received harassment and death threats online, that emotional suffering was reflected in physical symptoms. Cuts and bruises appeared on her body, similar to symptoms Sakuta himself suffers from. Sakuta realized the source, completely removed her online presence, and kept her away from her antagonists.
Sakuta assumed that would be the end, but the trauma remained. And another aspect of Kaede’s Adolescence Syndrome manifested itself: Kaede lost her memories and formed a different personality. She writes the name “Kaede” in hiragana rather than kanji and treats her former self as a distinct person. She also began to like pandas after watching a DVD Sakuta brought her. Above all, she fears the outside and strangers and has become a recluse.
Later, this new Kaede writes a list of objectives to complete, which includes leaving the house and attending Sakuta’s high school. Sakuta himself is worried, but he is supportive.
