It’s great when a beloved genre from our childhood can be repurposed into a totally new kind of story. That’s what we get with the currently-airing Love After World Domination, aka Koi wa Sekai Seifuku no Ato De, the love story between the leader of a sentai fighting team and his arch-nemesis. It’s basically Romeo and Juliet meet the Power Rangers. Let’s look at why this is the cutest anime you’re (maybe) not watching!
Love After World Domination is an Adorable Anime Love Story
In a world where Power Rangers-esque fighting teams are real and citizens might face an attack by the evil Secret Society Gecko at any moment, the peace of humanity is protected by the hero group Freezing Sentai Gelato 5. The five members stand ready to always defend us from attacks by the evil organization.
The leader of Gelato 5 is Fudo Aikawa, who is super strong but as well gifted in the brains department. When he encounters the Gecko’s newest member, Reaper Princess Desumi Magahara, something unexpected happens: he falls in love with her. Despite being sworn enemies, Fudo and Desumi start dating secretly, trying to make their relationship work despite needing to hide their love from their respective organizations. It’s all quite adorable to watch!

The awkward relationship that develops between the two is delightfully fun to see unfold, because neither has had any experience in relationships, leading to many comical moments as they learn what it’s like to be in a relationship and go on dates. Including when to start holding hands…
Love After World Domination is hilarious because when we’re not getting jokes about our two budding lovebirds trying to steal time to be alone together, we’re getting tokusatsu-related gags, which is great if you grew up with the genre, watching classic Japanese monster movies or shows or the various Power Rangers series. Right off the bat, the hero team’s name Gelato 5 itself is hilarious, with each of the five members representing a different flavor of ice cream.

Koi Wa Sekai Seifuku no Ato De is based on a manga running in Monthly Shonen Magazine written by Hiroshi Noda and drawn by Takahiro Wakamatsu. It’s animated by Project No. 9, who brought us such works as Higehiro, Low Tier Character “Tomozaki-kun” and Ro-Kyu-Bu.
