The animation quality in The Great Jahy plummeted this week. It made a terrible contrast with the new opening credit sequence. The producers didn’t even throw in one scene of Jahy-sama in her Number Two uniform to tide us over. Pathetic.
Hmm.
The Great Jahy shows how impressionable Jahy can be. We saw that happen two episodes ago when she made all the purchases at the home goods store. Jahy saw the Store Manager growing cherry tomatoes and thought she could save on her food bills. We already know Jahy isn’t good with money because she didn’t budget growing materials, time, or pesticides. She even read the words wrong on the seed package. For a lady who used to bathe in lava, her tongue can’t stand the habanero heat!
This episode counts as The Great Jahy’s second-half premiere, so this meant we saw new opening and closing credits sequences with new songs. Just like the first opening credit sequence, the new opener is rich with spoilers. The most important revelation is what the Demon Lord looks like. If she’s tiny like Jahy, just imagine what her maximum mana form looks like! I am disappointed in one regard, though.
I had hoped that Jahy working for the Craft Pub Maou would have a deeper meaning than a comedic coincidence. That is looking less likely now. We’ll need to see how tiny Maou fits into the story. But that teaser scene at the end of The Great Jahy episode makes it look like she’s staying at the same rundown apartment that Jahy occupies. The one thing we know for sure is that Maou will put a massive dent in Jahy’s food budget. Tomarou, the habanero plant, will not be of much help here.
New Season Opening and End Credits for The Great Jahy.

The worst spoiler is the Demon Lord’s introduction as an adorable girl with fast hands and an insatiable appetite. I see Druj getting jealous of the Magical Girl. This week’s The Great Jahy episode set up how all the misunderstandings came from Jahy’s lies.
The end credits have a new song and sequence too. Check it out on YouTube. I wonder if The Great Jahy will make their own board game based on this cute animation. The producers already made Jahy’s quest for crystals into a side scroller game on their website. What’s your high score?

The Great Jahy thinks one tomato plant will end her food problems. Well, if the plant grew magically like in Jack and the Beanstalk! Here we go. All the jokes about talking to plants to make them grow, giving them names, taking them for walks, and nursing them through illness are right here. The big punchline is that Tomarou is not a Roma tomato. It’s a habanero pepper! The ultimate betrayal! Of not reading the seed package and just looking at the pictures…
In the second sketch, the Great Jahy gets another roommate. Yes, Tomarou counts as a roommate. Jahy raised that boy. The Landlady ran away from home! Why won’t she move into the “empty” unit next door instead? She’d be lonely! Gah, such a high-maintenance nuisance. Jahy can’t refuse free rent and a live-in housekeeper. Will the Landlady repair that broken window? That’s her job, irrespective of her housekeeper status. I’m betting on “no.” Jahy will need to put up with the annoyances of stolen bed covers, stolen snacks, and messy clothes strewn on the floor.
We’ll need to wait on the slice-of-life resolution for that comedy bit from The Great Jahy. It’s time to check in with Druj so she can humble brag about her crystal collection. She also needs her fix of Jahy’s verbal abuse. If Druj thinks her efforts are lower than a worm’s efforts, then Jahy swims with the water fleas. Naturally, Druj won’t let Jahy get a word in, so Jahy can play along with the masochism play. Jahy gave us a new “Pathetic.” meme picture.
Uh oh. Jahy told Druj about meeting the Magical Girl. Oh, The Great Jahy set up some comedy gold here. Druj doesn’t know what the Magical Girl looks like. The Magical Girl doesn’t recognize Jahy’s childish form as the Dark Realm’s Number Two. And Jahy lied about the Magical Girl collecting crystals for her as a human underling! Look at Druj’s big pout! Somebody needs a head pat. We are watching the setup for that rivalry scene between Druj and the Magical Girl in the new opening credits. Jahy thinks she sweet-talked her way out of Druj discovering her pile of lies, but her punishment was the fancy café’s expensive bill. The Great Jahy Will Not Dine and Dash!
Okay, resolution time. The Store Manager and the Landlady need to make up because Jahy can’t have the younger sister break more of her stuff. Jahy’s words about keeping a home and cherishing loved ones have added weight because of her homeless circumstances. The Landlady is aware of how the Store Manager found Jahy living by the river. Oh? The Landlady can smile so brightly! Ack. Such a big fight over a modest problem. Well, the problem was that the Store Manager’s chest was not “modest,” and she ruined the Landlady’s tight-fitting sweaters.
Oho. The Great Jahy sets up a new character for the back half of the anime’s run. The Dark Realm’s Number One, the Demon Lord, is a tiny lady like Jahy! It looks like she’s living in a scummy apartment as Jahy does. Is she the tenant with the heavy metal guitar? I can’t wait to see Jahy’s reunion with her boss.
