You might recall earlier this month when a report hit the J-List Blog updating everyone on the status of the new mobile RPG titled Heaven Burns Red (still an awesome title, by the way). At the time, all we knew about the game was that it’s an RPG that will be released on iOS and Android before the end of the year with scenarios written by Jun Maeda (this is his first game in over a dozen years). Also previously reported was that artist Yuugen is adapting the main visual and character designs created by Na-Ga, Fumuyun, and Maroyaka.
Thanks to a new promotional video and an update on the official website, however, we can now reveal a lot more details about the game’s story (though the official cast and other details have yet to be announced).
The story for the game involves a world that has been almost completely overtaken by life forms known as “Cancer” and has driven humanity to the brink of extinction. In a corner, humanity develops a new weapon called Seraph, which is capable of defeating the cancer. The main character is named Ruka Kayamori and belongs to the 31A Squad. The story follows her struggle to defeat the cancer once and for all.
While I wish the promotional video had focused more on the gameplay and battle aspects of the game rather than how much running around you’re apparently going to have to do, this is a solid look at what’s coming.
As per usual with these announcements, that’s all there is, but the good news is that there will be a Heaven Burns Red presentation at the Tokyo Game Show on October 3rd which will hopefully shed more light on this.
I’ll admit it, despite being burned by the last couple of Maeda anime (Charlotte and The Day I Became A God) I’m excited about playing this game and I hope I can get to report on an English release within the next few weeks or months.
