It’s almost time for some fierce pirate action with Fena: Pirate Princess!
On Tuesday, July 20th, the news broke that we now have an official premiere date for the upcoming pirate action (coming of age?) story Fena: Pirate Princess. That date is August 14th on both Toonami and Crunchyroll. Toonami will air the twelve-episode series in English while Crunchyroll will stream it outside of Japan in Japanese with subtitles. The series won’t premiere in Japan until October.
Along with this information, the English and Japanese voice casts have also been revealed as follows (character names first):
Fena Houtman: Brittany Cox / Asami Seto
Yukimaru: Robb Moreira / Ryota Suzuki
Shitan: Nicholas Corda / Takahiro Sakurai
Karin: Anjali Kunapaneni / Aoi Yuki
Enju: Brandon Winckler / Gen Sato
Kaede: Darrel Delfin / Ryota Ohsaka
Tsubaki: Alan Lee / Jun Oosuka
Makaba: Thomas E. Wynn / Shintaro Tanaka
Salman: Frank Todaro / Manabu Muraji
Otto: Doug Stone / Hiroaki Hirata
As previously reported, the Adult Swim/Crunchyroll co-production is being produced by Production I.G (so at the very least this series is going to be beautiful) with Kazuto Nakazawa sitting in the director’s chair. He’ll be working off screenplays written by Asako Kuboyama. Yuki Kajiura is composing the background music.
Crunchyroll describes the story as:
Fena: Pirate Princess is a 12 episode original anime series that tells the tale of a young orphan girl, Fena Houtman. Fena has been raised on an island where there is no hope of becoming anything more than chattel, to be used and discarded by soldiers of the British Empire. But Fena is more than just another powerless orphan. When her mysterious past comes knocking, Fena will break the chains of her oppressors. Her goal: forge a new identity, free of bondage, and search for a place where she can truly belong and find out the true mysteries behind a keyword “Eden.” It is the story of a lifetime adventure she and her crew of misfits and unlikely allies will have, in pursuit of her goals!
