My Next Life as a Villainess Season 2 Reveals Premiere Date

Do you have any idea how stupid excited I am about the upcoming second season of My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom? Because I don’t think you do. I am beside myself with anticipation to find out what happens next to Catarina, now that she’s successfully navigated and/or avoided all the bad ending flags that were left for her in season one.

Luckily, we don’t have to wait long because we’ve learned from a new promotional video that was posted on Thursday, May 27th that the highly anticipated second season will premiere on July 2nd. Also confirmed in the video is that the Japanese band angela will return to perform the opening theme song titled Andante ni Koi o Shite! The cast and crew will also remain the same as in the first season. You might also recall this series being in the news recently, as Sentai Filmworks revealed they will release the first season on home video at an undisclosed later date.

In this isekai harem series, the main character is a Japanese student who finds herself transported into the body of a young noble girl in a fantasy world. After doing some research, the girl (now named Catarina) discovers that she’s been transported into the world of her favorite otome game. Not only that, but she’s been transported into the body of the game’s primary villain who, in the game, ends up meeting all sorts of bad endings, including exile and death. Determined to change her fate, Catarina goes around befriending everyone that she meets and ends up with quite the large harem of suitors!

Originally a light novel series written by Satoru Yamaguchi and illustrated by Nami Hidaka, the series began its professional publishing run in August 2015 under the Ichijinsha Bunko Iris imprint. The light novel series is up to ten volumes in Japanese and eight volumes in English (digital-only, the physical paperbacks being published by J-Novel Club are slowly catching up with seven volumes in print as of May 2021). The manga adaptation of the light novel series is up to six volumes in Japanese, with the English editions not far behind with five volumes printed by Seven Seas Entertainment.

As for the anime adaptation, studio Silver Link is returning to produce the animation for this upcoming season, with Keisuke Inoue serving as director. Megumi Shimizu is returning to take care of the series composition.

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom was my second favorite series of 2020 (trailing closely behind Kakushigoto, though I sometimes question that ranking decision), and seeing it get a second season thrills me beyond belief. A charming isekai story led by an equally charming bisexual character, My Next Life as a Villainess will go down as one of the great comedies of the summer 2021 season, though it will face some stiff competition from the returning Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S (which I’m also stupid excited about).
