After the enormous success of the Mugen Train movie, the Demon Slayer news I’m about to share really shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone, but Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba will return for a second television season. Yeah, I know, who would’ve thought, right?
The announcement came with the news that the new season, titled Yukaku-hen (Entertainment District arc), will air in 2021 and will feature all the original cast and crew returning to their respective roles.
Originally a manga created by Koyoharu Gotōge, which launched in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 2016 and ran until May 2020, the series is a dark story about a young boy named Tanjiro who is trying to save his sister after their entire family is slaughtered and she is turned into a savage demon. The final volume shipped on December 4th, 2020 in Japan and there were plenty of people waiting to get their hands on it! Meanwhile, on this side of the ocean, Viz Media has been releasing new volumes monthly since May 2020. The series was turned into a two-cour anime series back in 2019, by now famed studio ufotable, and has been a runaway sensation ever since with fans; both young and adult.
Let’s be real here. This is not a shock to anyone as Demon Slayer continues to absolutely kill it on the sales charts. The movie is the highest-grossing movie of all time in Japan and at one point it was king of the global box office as well. No matter how you feel about the series (and trust me, there are some strong opinions on it out there in the wilds of the Internet), it’s impossible to deny its overwhelming success. With the launch of a second season, this virtually guarantees that we’ll be seeing a lot more of Tanjiro and Nezuko for a very long time to come.
