“In such an era? No, because it’s such an era.”
That phrase is the reasoning behind the Japanese adult entertainment company Soft on Demand opening an “adult theme park” in the Kabukicho neighborhood of Tokyo on Saturday, October 10th. The adult theme park was first announced in late September and had its grand opening this past weekend.
The theme park, which is called SOD Land, is essentially a five-story bar that allows patrons to buy adult videos and merchandise while also sharing a (protected by plastic) chat with an actual adult movie actress.
The first floor is for paying your admittance fee which, according to a report on Kotaku, will run you between 2,500 yen for 60 minutes of time inside, a first drink, and one DVD or, if you really want to splurge, 5,000 yen which includes a drink and two merchandise items. It should be noted though that this is just the fee to gain admittance, you still have to pay for all the food and drinks you order beyond your admittance freebie once you get inside.
Once you actually get in, you’ll be able to choose your desired floor, which includes:
- The “Newcomer Adult Film Actress Floor,” where you’ll be served drinks by actresses who either recently made their debut or will debut in an upcoming title.
- Kakubutsu Salon which features women who work in more risque businesses such as hostess bars and other adult entertainment businesses.
- The “Famous Actresses Floor” which will be worked by, you guessed it, the most famous actresses who have worked for the company.
- And then finally, “The Silent Floor” where drinks will be served by women behind a one-way mirror and conversation between patrons is strictly prohibited.
To protect the workers and patrons, the theme park is using various safety measures including having guests get their temperature taken upon entering, wearing masks, and having plastic partitions between the guests and the workers. It’s not clear if the actresses who are working the establishment have all undergone mixology training, but one would assume so, or maybe they’ll have someone mixing them behind the scenes.
I understand the need to get back to normal everywhere around the world and, while the company might think they are just trying to boost the spirits of the Japanese people, perhaps this is not the best year to be attempting SOD Land. But then again, this has been one crazy year.
