Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World has been making plenty of big moves this year. For starters, the long-anticipated follow-up season to the unforgettable 2016 anime is set to debut in just a few months after being unexpectedly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On top of a new anime entry, fans will soon be able to take the world and characters of the series with them wherever they go in the form of a new smartphone spin-off game launching in Japan this summer, Re:Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu – Lost in Memories. If you aren’t much of a mobile gamer but still want to enjoy an interactive experienced based on this iconic isekai series, though, you’re in luck. Spike Chunsoft has just announced Re:Zero – The Prophecy of the Throne for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
While the game is titled Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World: Royal Selection Candidate, an Amazon U.K. listing that leaked out a week ago confirms the English existence of the visual novel spinoff under the name Re:Zero – The Prophecy of the Throne. The game features an original story fully supervised by the author of the original light novel series that the franchise is based on, Tappei Nagatsuki. In it, a surprise sixth candidate for the Royal Selection ceremony appears, casting immediate suspicions on Emilia. Plenty of new characters are set to appear, and they’ll be designed by Shinichiro Otsuka, the artist responsible for the illustrations of the original light novel series.

One month after Subaru’s new life in another world began, an emissary sent by the Royal Castle suddenly appears with news that the Royal Selection has been postponed, but offers no reason as to why. The postponement of this grand event that decides the next ruler of the Kingdom of Lugunica stirs Subaru and his friends into action. They return to the Royal Capital only to find that a sixth candidate has claimed their stake for the throne. But the Dragon Stone prophesizes that only five candidates would be chosen. With one candidate being an imposter, suspicions are immediately cast toward one woman in particular: Emilia. What answers lie beyond the mysterious web of assassination, betrayal, and conspiracies…?
