In a follow up to a post that was published here in late September, the third television season of A Certain Scientific Railgun (simply titled A Certain Scientific Railgun T) has announced its exact premiere date earlier this week. Mark your calendars, because January 10th is the big day when we’ll finally get to see Misaka, Kuroko, and all their friends return to our screens.
According to a report from Getchu, the story for the third season will cover the arc which begins in volume eight of the original light novel. Seven Seas describes the plot of this arc as:
The Daihasei Festival may be all fun and games (and explosions), but the chaos of the competition also serves as a distraction. A dank conspiracy lurks behind the event, and it ensnares one of Misaka’s “sisters.” When Misaka tries to investigate, the enemy proves to be more complicated – and ruthless – than she first guessed. Judgment is crippled. Misaka’s back may be up against a wall, but some of her other friends prove to be powerhouses in their own right.
As previously reported, director Tatsuyuki Nagai and animation studio J.C. Staff will return to put A Certain Scientific Railgun T together. We also know that the band fripside will return to perform the new opening theme song. On the other end will be Kishida Kyodan & The Akeboshi Rockets performing the ending theme. Other names returning to the franchise include Yuichi Tanaka (character designs) and Maiko Iuchi (background music composer). Not returning this time around, however, is the series compositor, Seishi Minakami, who is being replaced in that role by Shogo Yasukawa.
Originally a manga spinoff written by Kazuma Kamachi and illustrated by Motoi Fuyukawa from the A Certain Magical Index light novel series, this series follows a few of the side characters from Index who gained a pretty devout following all on their own. It began serialization in April 2007 and is now up to its 14th volume as of October 2018. It has also inspired two television anime series and an OVA.
