Dragonball FighterZ’s next planned DLC character, Gogeta in his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form has finally been shown at Tokyo Game Show. Initially revealed at the EVO tournament in 2018 along with the Dragonball Super version of Broly, fans got the first glimpse of Gogeta in-game at the end of the Janemba reveal trailer from this year’s EVO in July. During a stream on VJump’s Youtube Channel (at timestamp 3 hours, 40 minutes), Dragonball FighterZ producer Tomoko Hiroki and director Junya Motomura finally revealed what the character will play like a full year since the first official announcement of his inclusion. Gogeta was demoed by top Dragonball FighterZ player Kazunoko who quickly did a runthrough of what the character will play like.
From solely the perspective of a Dragonball Z fan, Gogeta is full of references taken from all of his appearances in the series and movies. Gogeta can create multiple afterimages of himself while charging a Kamehameha and can even feint the move, a reference to his fight with Omega Shenron in Dragonball GT. He also has a counterattack move where he dashes through the opponent that does 1515 damage — a reference to Fusion Reborn, the 15th Dragonball Movie where Gogeta used the move against Janemba. Also shown at the end of the Janemba trailer, Gogeta’s ultimate move is a near exact replica of the final attack sequence he uses against Broly in the latest movie, Dragonball Super: Broly.
When it comes to gameplay, Gogeta seems to be a very versatile character with a large moveset designed with heavy meter usage in mind. His base moveset features multiple series of dive kicks and rising uppercuts, each with various followups for different situations. Gogeta’s basic Ki blast is a beam which gives him strong space control from anywhere on stage along with an unblockable punch attack to deal with overly defensive opponents. Rounding out his arsenal are unique moves, such as his crouching light attack being a slide, a jumping medium attack that does three hits and the aforementioned counter move. His most defining trait is all of his super moves being enhanceable by using extra meter. His ground super, God Punisher, can be turned into his iconic rainbow orb, the Stardust Breaker. In the air, he can launch the powerful Big Bang Kamehameha and with an extra meter, turn it into the multibeam version from Dragonball Super: Broly. Finally, Gogeta’s Level 3 super can be turned into a Level 5 super and the climax of his battle with Broly in the movie — a giant Ki explosion followed by the Ultimate Kamehameha.
Gogeta will be available for download on September 26. Dragonball FighterZ is available on Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC and Xbox One.
