More Final Fantasy news! Square Enix has now added more hype as they announced during their presentation at the E3 Press Conference on Monday that they will release Final Fantasy VIII Remastered this year! The game will be available for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.
A video was also uploaded on the same day confirming the announcement:
The original Final Fantasy VIII game follows the story of Squall Leonhart and Rinoa Heartilly as they fight together an evil sorceress from the future named Ultimecia. It was originally released for the PlayStation One in 1999. A Windows version was also released in 2000.
Development for the game started in 1997, during the period when the English localization of the original Final Fantasy VII was released. This eighth installment of the popular game franchise is popular to fans because it was the first game to use proper and realistic proportioned characters all throughout.
The original game was re-released for the PSOne Classic back in 2009. Then for the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, and the PlayStation Vita in 2012. The game also re-released on Steam in 2013 and has sold more than 8.3 million copies worldwide—proof that this game is still well-loved by fans until this day.
Square Enix also announced in E3 that the Final Fantasy VII remake is scheduled to be released worldwide on March 3, 2020, for the PlayStation 4.
