It’s fun to sit back and analyze anime logic, the unique set of physical rules that apply in anime but nowhere else. Like the way eyebrows happily exist on top of hair, or the strange properties of light that cause it to bend around the glasses of a meganekko character so we can see their large, expressive eyes even if the frames are in the way. Everyone can be clumsy at times, but only in anime do characters fall down in such as way as to accidentally kiss another character, or come in contact with their pantsu. Anime is a magical place where pureblooded Japanese characters can have blonde hair (and blue, and red), can detach hair bobs and put them back on later, and (back in the 80s at least) pull “hyperspace hammers” out of thin air to smash opponents. What are your favorite examples of “anime logic”?
When you study Japanese, there are always some elements that are hard for us (getting used to switching between formal and informal verbs depending on whether you’re talking to senpai or someone the same age or younger than you), and some that are easier (many aspects of grammar, from conditional verbs to specifying singular/plural for nouns, are not needed in Japanese). Another nice surprise is, no need to learn the names of months, since they just use numbers, e.g. ichi-gatsu (“one month”) for January, ni-gatsu (“two-month”) for February, etc. It’s currently juni-gatsu (“twelve month”) or December, which is a very busy time in Japan, what with having year-end parties with friends or co-workers, preparing for the year-end cleaning, and so on. The old Lunar name for December is 師走 shiwasu, which can be translated as “a time so busy that even Buddhist priests and teachers are running around.” December is an important time for couples, too, and many famous spots in Tokyo deck themselves out in “Christmas illumination” lights to attract couples out on a special date.
