Cute girls doing cute… pottery?
On Tuesday, July 28th, an announcement hit the web revealing the newest ‘Cute Girls Doing Cute Things’ series will have a pottery theme, which you have to admit is pretty unique.
The full name for the series is Yakunara MugCup Mo and features a variety of cute high school girls who all happen to belong to the school pottery club. The manga is available for free via its official website in both Japanese and English. Yakunara MugCup Mo first launched on February 14th, 2012, and was translated into English starting in April 2014. So far it has published 32 volumes.
The voice cast for the anime series is as follows (character names first):
Himeno Toyokawa: Mayumi Tanaka
Mika Kukuri: Yu Serizawa
Naoko Naruse: Yuki Wakai
Toko Aoki: Rina Honnizumi
Along with the starring cast, we can also report that Nippon Animation will produce the animation, with Jun Kamiya sitting in the director’s chair working off scripts written by Toshihisa Arakawa and character designs by Ayano Yoshioka.
The official website describes the story as:
The city of Tajimi, located in the southern part of Gifu Prefecture, Japan, is famous for Mino earthenware. The city is dotted with historical pottery producers and ceramic art museums.
It has facilities where you can try your hand at making pottery, and many restaurants that serve food on Minoware dishes.
The story begins when a high school girl moves to a shopping street in Tajimi. Many encounters await her, friends, town folk, ceramic art, etc. What will she discover in a town famous for ceramic?
From the looks of things, Yakunara MugCup Mo was created as a promotional tool for the city of Tajimi (who is collaborating on this anime project) which makes this another tourism anime aimed at getting people to visit the city. Not that this is a bad thing at all as I’d love to take an otaku pilgrimage one of these days. Sigh, someday.
