Suisei and La-na released the original There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party, So I Tried Confessing to Her light novel from October 30th, 2014, to August 29th, 2015. Futabasha published all three volumes in the Monster Bunko imprint.

The isekai protagonist and his cleric waifu are as follows:
- Yoki Segawa — Kohei Amasaki (Fohl from The Rising of the Shield Hero). A regular Japanese guy who was reborn as a powerful demon.
- Cecilia Aquarain — Kana Hanazawa (Ichika Nakano from The Quintessential Quintuplets). A young noblewoman who joined the Hero Party to defeat the Demon King.

Yoki Segawa was just an average, ordinary Japanese guy who lost his life in a traffic accident. He was reborn in another world full of magic and monsters. Rather than receive the typical isekai protagonist treatment, Yoki is reborn as a demon with cheat-level magic powers. Rather than dethrone the current Demon King, Yoki decides to enjoy his new life as a mid-boss and captain of the dark knights.
Yoki spends his time defeating the Hero Party whenever they come to slay his king. His heart remains human, so he defeats the heroes, heals them, and then sends his men to take them back to the forest. One of the heroes has since caught his eye: the cleric Cecilia Aquarain. He allows the hero Yuga and most of his party to confront the Demon King as he confesses his feelings to Cecilia.
