As we finally get down to the end of this very, very long year, it’s nice to know that all the anime that was pushed back due to current circumstances will be waiting for us in the new year. One of the highly-awaited anime that suffered a COVID-19 related push back was The Promised Neverland. While fans spent many months without a clear release date, the Japanese programming block Noitamina recently announced the return of The Promised Neverland on their Twitter account.
The second season of the series is scheduled to air on January 7th, on the Fuji TV anime block. While Noitamina’s announcement only contained a new key visual of a very determined Emma, a new teaser trailer was also released. While it doesn’t reveal anything new about the season, it is a very succinct recap of the first season, and a pointed reminder of the stakes Emma, Ray, and Norman are now up against as they move forward. The teaser is also surprisingly spoiler-heavy, especially if you haven’t gotten through the first season of the anime.
So far there’s no information on when and where the season will be simulcast, or when an English dub will be made available, but that’s sure to come in due time. For now, it’s just enough to know a great anime gets another anime season under its belt, even with tons of obstacles in its way. The impending arrival of season two does make me want to go through the manga, just to see if I can guess the potential plot points, spot differences between the manga and anime, and at least have a chance to keep up with the series, especially if new seasons of the anime aren’t greenlit in the future. However, the one thing I know for certain this season is that no one should have any favorites.
