A great dragon once laid an egg and buried it in a cave for safekeeping. A group of adventurers hunted the dragon down, leaving the unborn dragon an orphan. The egg’s story didn’t end there. A magical mother cat led her kittens to take refuge in the cave, where she discovered the egg just as it hatched. We’ll see how a dragon raised by cats turns out when The Cat and the Dragon (Neko to Ryu) premieres sometime in July 2026.
Amara and Mai Okuma released the original The Cat and the Dragon light novel series on April 22nd, 2016. Takarajimasha has since published eight volumes. Izumi Sasaki provided the art for the manga adaptation, which debuted on September 22nd, 2017. Takarajimasha has since published twelve volumes in Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Web.

- Nekoryu — Takehito Koyasu (Kraft from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End). Nekoryu is a dragon that magic cats in the forest raised.

The Cat and the Dragon Live Together in a Magic Forest
A group of adventurers slayed a dragon, leaving its egg orphaned. A wandering mother cat and her kittens took refuge in the dragon’s cave, and they watched it hatch. The mother cat adopts the baby dragon as one of her own and teaches it to hunt and cast magic. The cats readily accept the dragon among the litter of kittens, and he becomes a member of the family. Their happiness abruptly ends after human magic summons the mother cat. The dragon loses a second parent to humans.
Years later, the human kingdom dubbed Nekoryu the Dragon Emperor. He rained fire down upon soldiers and issued a dire warning to never harm the forest cats again. Human hunters provoked this action by capturing and harvesting materials from the forest cats. A bridge between cats and humans forms when one of Nekoryu’s kin befriends the human prince and teaches him magic.
