It sure seems like anybody who is anybody has a mobile game these days, and that includes some of our favorite anime series. The latest to jump headfirst into the fray is The Rising of the Shield Hero, who revealed today that they plan on opening their own game in the near future in Japan on both iOS and Android. Unfortunately, no further details were released regarding the game, but the official website promises that a promotional video and other details will be released soon.
The second season of the anime adaptation will air at some point in 2021, with the third season airing soon afterward. The crew has said that they hoped that the wait between seasons two and three would be much shorter, since fans have been waiting so patiently for season two.
For the most part, the crew is remaining unchanged from the first season, with one notable exception. Unlike the first season, Masato Jinbo, who is replacing Takao Abo, will direct the second season. The rest of the primary cast and crew remain unchanged.
Based on the light novel series of the same name, the anime series premiered in January 2019 with a 25-episode first season directed by Takao Abo and series composition by Keigo Koyanagi. The light novel series and subsequent manga adaptation are both being released in English by One Peace Books.
Upon the initial release of the anime adaptation in January 2019, The Rising of the Shield Hero was seen as divisive for multiple reasons, including the fact that the main character, Naofumi, takes a raccoon girl as a slave early on. No matter how you feel about the series, however, it’s impossible to deny that the series has found its audience around the world with seasons 2 and 3 being announced at the same time in September 2019, which is almost unheard of.
