Normally, I associate studio P.A. Works with sweet, coming-of-age stories, so imagine my shock when I learned they will be producing the animation for an original TV anime premiering in October 2022 titled Akiba Maid War.
Admittedly, the promotional video posted above doesn’t provide us with a ton of details regarding the story (which is unfortunate) but we can at least report on who will bring these characters to life!
As noted, P.A. Works will produce the animation for Akiba Maid War with Souichi Masui taking care of the director’s duties. Yoshihiro Hiki is writing the series composition while Manabu Nii is designing the characters. Yoshihiro Ike will compose the background music.
We also know which voice actors will bring the various characters to life (character names first):
Nagomi Kazuhira: Reina Kondo
Ranko Kazutoshi: Rina Satou
Yumechi: Minami Tanaka
Shiipon: Tomoyo Kurosawa
Cafe Manager: Ayahi Takagaki
As mentioned, a detailed story synopsis has yet to be revealed by the cast but according to a report on MyAnimeList, the series will take place in 1999 Akiba and begins with a new maid joining the maid cafe Ton Tokoton. Akiba Maid War will premiere on Japanese airwaves starting on October 6th.
I’ve said before how much I love this current trend of original stories being turned into anime. Admittedly, not every original story that gets turned into an anime is wonderful, but I feel strongly that the hit series that we get outweigh the number of series that fall flat on their faces.
That being said, I’m actually quite curious to check this series out when it premieres in just over a month. While I would prefer to actually have a vague idea of what I’m about to watch before I start it, the “censored” scenes in the promotional video have left me curious about what the production committee has in store for fans.
