It’s been a while since we talked about this epic of star-crossed lovers. Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World tells a tale as old as time. It also has an incredibly long title, so we’ll be referring to it as Our Last Crusade for now. Season one has come and gone, but season 2 is set to premiere sometime in 2024. This gives people plenty of time to run through the first season. We have a trailer to get us hyped until then.
Kei Sazane and Ao Nekonabe first released the Our Last Crusade light novel on May 20th, 2017. Fujimi Shobo has since released fifteen volumes in the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint. The anime adaptation began airing on October 7th, 2020. Studio Palette will be animating season two, replacing Silver Link who had animated season one.
Our knight in shining armor, and two powerful and cute mages, are as follows:
- Iska — Yusuke Kobayashi (Dino in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) Iska is the unofficial leader of the Heavenly Empire’s 907th Unit and an incredibly powerful swordsman. He fell from grace as the youngest Saint Disciple in the Empire’s history after freeing a witch from prison.
- Aliceliese “Alice” Lou Nebulis IX — Sora Amamiya (Illustrious in Azur Lane) Alice is the second princess of the Nebulis Sovereignty, and the so-called “Ice Calamity Witch.” Iska and Alice act very friendly for supposed enemies.
- Sisbell Lou Nebulis IX — Azumi Waki (Steyr AUG in Girls’ Frontline) Alice’s younger sister and heir to the throne. She is the “witch” Iska saved a year ago, which earned him her affection.
A home page and Twitter page has been set up to promote Our Last Crusade. Behind-the-scenes information, and extras such as the Key Visual, can be found there.
A Pointless, Endless War
Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World (Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjō, Aruiwa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen / KimiSen) takes place in a world torn asunder by war. The technologically advanced Heavenly Empire and the magically gifted Nebulis Sovereignty have been fighting a seemingly endless war for supremacy. Those caught in the middle, such as the grand knight Iska, and the princess of ice Alice, wish to see it end. Despite facing one another on the blood-soaked battlefield numerous times, these two peerless warriors can’t seem to hate one another.
Iska is a proud warrior of the Heavenly Empire. His peerless might granted him the title of the youngest Saint Disciple in the empire’s history. However, his views conflicted with his superiors’, leading him to release a young witch they held in captivity. This “witch” was Sisbell Lou Nebulis IX, the third princess of the Nebulis Sovereignty. Iska was stripped of his rank and title, and sentenced to life in prison for his efforts. His sentence was cut short when the war began to turn, leading him into conflict with Aliceliese Lou Nebulis IX, the second princess. Indeed, their fates would be intertwined as the war drags out.
Are you excited to see Iska’s story continue in the new season of Our Last Crusade? Were you disappointed to find a new studio taking over the anime adaptation? Who is the Best Girl of the series? Let us know in the comments below.
