It’s been quite some time since we discussed the NieR:Automata anime adaptation NieR:Automata Ver1.1a. 2B’s award-winning assets were fully animated and realized. It’s a glorious time for humanity. However, the series was put on hold after Episode 8 aired on March 19th, 2023. 2B’s fight continues with Episode 9, which airs July 23rd, 2023. Cultured fans of Best Robot Girl should be hyped by the new trailer.
Studio A-1 Pictures has maintained a home page to promote NieR:Automata Ver1.1a and an official Twitter page. Fans and potential viewers can visit those pages for behind-the-scenes information and numerous Key Visuals.
Androids Fight on a Ruined Earth
Aliens sent forth Machine Lifeforms to destroy humanity many years ago. That battle continues far into the future. 11,945, on a post-apocalyptic Earth that humanity has consequently abandoned, Androids acting on behalf of humankind fight for what’s left. NieR:Automata Ver1.1a follows a particular group of Androids as they carry out their missions. YoRHa No.2 Type B, also known simply as 2B (Yui Ishikawa), and her partner YoRHa No.9 Type S, also known as 9S (Nines) (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) face down Machine Lifeforms, both large and human-sized.
Standing against them are the two comparatively biblical humanoid Machine Lifeforms with their own goals. They’re known as Adam (voiced by Daisuke Namikawa) and Eve (voiced by Tatsuhisa Suzuki). Then there is the one-and-only prototype YoRHa Type A No.2, also known as A2 (Ayaka Suwa), with a grudge against both YoRHa and the Machine Lifeforms equally. Formerly an ally of humanity, she has an axe to grind against her later counterparts.
Despite their fears of threats both without and within, 2B and A2 must face unimaginable threats to save the earth from its invaders.
NieR:Automata Ver1.1a Origins
2B first set the internet alight in the award-winning video game NieR:Automata. PlatinumGames, with Yoko Taro at its head, developed the game and released it on February 23rd, 2017. It is a sequel to Nier, a spin-off of the Drakengard series.
If some cultured 2B fan is looking for more stoic robot girl goodness for their life, the J-List shop has them covered. The 2B (YoRHa No.2 Type B) FORM-ISM Figure and the 2B (YoRHa No.2 Type B) FORM-ISM Figure Goggles OFF ver. are available for pre-order. The NieR:Automata section has much more to offer. There’s no real difference between the two figures except the headband.
Are you excited to see 2B’s story continue after months of waiting? How do you think the anime compares to the video game? Who is the Best Girl in the series? Trick question, it’s 2B.
