Sound the alarms because it’s new anime announcement day! In the middle of the night (for me at least) on February 22nd, studios Troyca and DMM Pictures revealed that they will team up on a brand new original project titled Shinobi no Itoki. Unfortunately, there were no other details released with the announcement other than the key visual seen below.
Of all the active animation studios in Japan, Troyca is a studio that doesn’t get nearly as much attention as their older brethren do. That’s ok though, since the studio has only been around for nine years. In that nine years, however, Troyca has put together a resume that is nothing to be ashamed of.
They started their existence with an original story, Aldnoah Zero, with the help of A-1 Pictures that started promisingly before leaving a sour taste in the mouths of fans with the second season. That didn’t deter them, though. Ever since that first series, Troyca has kept pushing forward with another original project in Re: Creators and is also the producer of the hit boy band series Idolish, which is up to three seasons.
The only thing that really disappoints me about this announcement is that they chose to do a “no-frills” announcement with no additional information to report or speculate on, so I guess let’s talk about that title and key visual.
Putting the title Shinobi no Itoki against the key visual, we can tell that this story is going to be about a young female ninja. She’s standing in a rainy cityscape which already has me wondering about what the tone of this series is going to be. Is this going to be a dark drama or coming of age story about a young woman who no longer wants to be a ninja? The only thing that I feel certain about is that this isn’t likely to be a comedy.
If you’re curious about learning more about this series, be sure to stay tuned to the J-List Blog for more information as it becomes available in the coming weeks and months.
